Electrical - Smart Junction Box (SJB) Code Clearing
TSB: 09-040/062006 TRIBUTE - SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) REPLACEMENT AND CLEARING CONTINUOUS DTCs FROM THE SJB
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2006 Tribute
DESCRIPTION
After replacing the SJB, some continuous memory DTCs may be stored in the SJB. DTCs C2780 and other codes may be present after successfully training the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), if equipped. The procedure to install the SJB and clear codes is critical. Clearing all codes from the SJB is not possible using traditional DTC clearing methods. The SJB has the capability to disable output drivers when a fault is detected and disable functions in some circuits until all continuous memory DTCs are cleared. Use the following procedure when installing a new SJB, and clear all continuous memory codes.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
Use the procedure below for using IDS and PDS to install the SJB and clear all codes.
USING IDS:
1. Establish communication between the PCM and IDS. I.D. the vehicle BEFORE removing the SJB. Select "ESCAPE, TRIBUTE, MAVERICK" during I.D process. Please follow all screen prompts carefully.
2. Select Toolbox>Module Programming>Programmable Module Installation>GEM.
3. Install the new SJB only when prompted by IDS and complete "GEM Module Configuration" procedure, then click on Tick.
4. Turn key to OFF position as prompted, then click on Tick.
5. IDS screen is now showing the programming menu. Cycle the ignition key from OFF to ON. The TPMS light should now be flashing in the Instrument cluster if the vehicle is equipped with TPMS. If not equipped with TPMS, proceed to Step 7.
6. Perform "TPMS Training Procedure" below. Train all four TPMS wheel sensors using SST # 204-363-TPMS and use the following procedure when the vehicle is equipped with TPMS.
TPMS Training Procedure:
a. Inflate tires to recommended tire pressure.
b. If TPMS sensor was replaced, wait two (2) minutes to allow new sensor to wake-up. If not replaced, proceed to Step.
CAUTION:
Perform the following key cycles within sixty (60) seconds.
C. Turn ignition OFF.
d. Press and release brake pedal.
e. Turn ignition from OFF to ON three (3) times ending in ON position.
f. Press and release brake pedal.
g. Turn ignition OFF.
h. Turn ignition from OFF to ON three (3) times ending in ON position.
i. The horn will sound once and the TPMS indicator will flash when the training mode has been successfully entered. If you do not hear the vehicle's horn confirmation, you have NOT entered the TPMS training mode and will NOT be able to train the sensors. Repeat Steps a - h.
j. Starting at LF tire, hold SST (Test Button facing valve stem) against the tire side wall 180 degrees opposite of the valve stem. Press and release "Test" button on the SST. Wait 5-15 seconds while holding SST against tire. When TPMS sensor has been trained, the horn will sound one (1) time. Now train the remaining sensors within 2 minutes in the following order: RF, RR, and LR. Listen for the horn to beep one time when training each wheel sensor.
- If TPMS sensors were successfully trained, the TPMS dash indicator will turn off.
k. Turn ignition OFF.
- If TPMS sensors were successfully trained, the horn will not sound again.
- If TPMS sensors were NOT successfully trained, the horn will sound two (2) times. If this occurs, repeat Steps a - k.
7. Close all doors and rear hatch (door windows can be open, but rear hatch glass must be closed).
8. After successful completion of the TPMS wheel sensor training, return IDS to the "Vehicle Specifications" screen.
9. Perform "Self Test" on GEM module by selecting Toolbox>Self Test>Modules>Gem. Please follow the "Self Test" preparation screen carefully. Clear all GEM DTCs. The TPMS light should be OFF and all GEM DTCs cleared.
NOTE:
If any DTCs remain after clearing, diagnose the DTC according to the Workshop Manual.
USING PDS:
1. Establish communication between the PCM and PDS. I.D. the vehicle BEFORE removing the SJB. Select "ESCAPE, TRIBUTE, MAVERICK", during I.D. process. Please follow all screen prompts carefully.
2. Select Programming>Module Programming>Programmable Module Installation>GEM.
3. Install the new SJB only when prompted by PDS and complete "GEM Module Configuration Procedure", then click on Tick.
4. Turn key to OFF position as prompted, then click on Tick.
5. PDS screen is now showing the programming menu. Cycle the ignition key from OFF to ON. The TPMS light should now be flashing in the Instrument cluster if the vehicle is equipped with TPMS. If not equipped with TPMS, proceed to Step 7.
6. Perform "TPMS Training Procedure" above. Train all four TPMS wheel sensors using SST # 204-363-TPMS and the training procedure above if vehicle is equipped with TPMS.
7. Close all doors and rear hatch (door windows can be open, but not rear hatch glass).
8. After successful completion of the TPMS wheel sensor training, return PDS to the "Main Menu".
9. Perform "Self Test" on GEM module by selecting Module Tests>Gem>Self Test. Please follow the "Self Test" preparation screen carefully. Clear all GEM DTCs. The TPMS light should be OFF and all GEM DTCs cleared.
NOTE:
If any DTCs remain after clearing, diagnose the DTC according to the Workshop Manual.
