Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR - 2.3 L

Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position on a hoist.




2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.




3. Remove the fice bolts and the RH splash shield.




4. Remove the plug.
5. Turn the crankshaft pulley bolt to position the number one cylinder at top dead center and install the crankshaft timing peg SST.
6. Disconnect the CKP electrical connector.
7. Remove the CKP sensor bolts and the CKP sensor.

Installation

CAUTION: Only hand tighten the bolt or damage to the front cover may occur.




1. Install a 6 mm (0.23 in) x 18 mm (0.7 in) standard bolt.

NOTE: Do not tighten the bolts at this time.

2. Install the CKP sensor and the bolts.

NOTE: The CKP sensor alignment tool is supplied with the new sensor and is nit available separately.

3. Adjust the CKP sensor alignment jig and tighten the CKP bolts.

Tightening Torque: 7 Nm (0.7 kgf.m, 62 in.lbf)

4. Connect the CKP sensor.







5. Remove the bolt.




6. Remove the crankshaft timing peg SST.





7. Install the plug.

8. Install the RH splash shield and the bolts.

Tightening Torque: 8 Nm (0.8 kgf.m, 71 in.lbf)

9. Connect the negative battery cable.
