Installation

TRANSAXLE - 2.3L





1. Lubricate the torque converter pilot hub with grease.





2. Install the special tool.





3. Position the transaxle in place.





4. Once the transaxle is in place, prior to bolting it to the engine, remove the special tool.





5. Move the transaxle assembly toward the engine assembly and install the bolt.





6. Install the transaxle retaining bolt.





7. Install the lower transaxle retaining bolts.





8. Install the four new torque converter nuts.





9. Install the rubber access cover.





10. Install the transaxle fluid cooler tube.





11. Install the output shaft speed (OSS) sensor.





12. Install the fluid cooler tube.
1. Install the fluid cooler tube.
2. Install the bolt.
3. Connect the OSS sensor.
4. Connect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor (white connector).





13. Install the starter motor isolator.





14. Install the starter motor.





15. Install the wire harness clip retainer and the ground wire to the starter bolts.





16. If installing a new or remanufactured transaxle, install the lower rear mount bracket.





17. Install the bolt and tighten the upper transaxle mount nuts.
1. Install the through bolt.
2. Install the mount nuts.





18. Remove the special tools,





19. Remove the special tools.





20. Remove the special tools.





21. Install the upper transaxle bolts.





22. Connect the transaxle range (TR) sensor electrical connector.





23. Connect the shift cable to the manual lever.





24. Install the shift cable bracket, ground wires and plug in the bulkhead electrical connector.

Note: If installing an exchange transaxle, the digital TR sensor must be aligned.





25. Using the special tool, align the digital TR sensor.
26. Install the rear transaxle mount center bolt.





27. If the vehicle is not equipped with a power takeoff (PTO), install the dampener.





28. install the PTO assembly.





29. If equipped with a PTO, install the driveshaft.





30. Install the bracket.





31. Install the front bolts on the exhaust-to-engine bracket.





32. Install the nuts on the rear of the exhaust-to-engine bracket.





33. Install the intermediate shaft.





34. Install the intermediate shaft retaining nuts.





35. Install the RH halfshaft and lower control arm bolt.





36. Install the LH halfshaft into the wheel knuckle and install a new nut.





37. Install the cross brace and the rear nut.





38. Install the bolt for the motor mount and install the two bolts for the cross brace.





39. Install the cross brace,





40. Install the LH splash shield and the seven retainers.





41. Install the RH splash shield and the seven retainers.





42. Install the vent tube to the fluid level indicator.
43. Install the air cleaner assembly.

Note: Before installing the battery tray, check the vent tube hose for any obstructions, kinks or incorrect routing position.

44. Install the battery tray.
45. Fill the transaxle with clean automatic transaxle fluid.
46. Check the fluid level and correct as necessary.
