Differential Cover: Service and Repair

REAR DRIVE AXLE DIFFERENTIAL COVER, AXLE SHAFT, OIL SEAL AND WHEEL BEARING





Removal
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the bolts and the differential cover.





3. Clean the sealer from the mating surfaces.

Installation

Note: The differential housing must be installed within 15 minutes of application of the silicone, or new sealant must be applied. If possible, allow one hour before filling with lubricant to make sure the silicone is sealant has correctly cured.





1. Apply a new continuous bead of clear silicone as shown in the illustration.
2. Install the differential cover and bolts.





3. Fill the rear axle differential with 1.4 liters (2.95 pints) of rear axle lubricant.
