Body - Sliding Door Lock Hard To Operate

Bulletin No: 09-054/09

Last Issued: 09/18/2009

Subject:
SLIDING DOOR LOCK HARD TO OPERATE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2006-2008 Mazda5 vehicles with
VINs lower than JM1 CR*9** *0 307038 (produced before December 4, 2007)

DESCRIPTION

On some vehicles, the sliding door lock may be hard to operate. This may be caused by two things. First, too much grease has been applied to the lock actuator (A) and second, the lock lever of the remote controller (B) gets caught. To fix the problem, the amount of grease for the lock actuator is now strictly controlled and the shape of the remote controller lock lever has been changed.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Confirm lock/unlock by operating the sliding door handle (A).

a. If the handle can lock/unlock, an electrical failure may exist. Proceed to step 3.

b. If the handle cannot lock/unlock, first inspect the connection of the cable and the movement of the link, then replace the remote controller with a modified one. Proceed to step 4.

3. Check for battery voltage at the terminals of the lock actuator (A) when locking and unlocking the doors using the following diagram. You should get battery voltage one way and ground the other way at each terminal.

a. If the voltage is NOT battery voltage, refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop manual section 01-12 KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS [KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM].

b. If the voltage is within specification, replace the lock actuator using the following steps.

1. Remove the remote controller, then remove the screw (A) which connects the remote controller and lock actuator.

2. Remove the lock actuator from the remote controller.

3. Engage the protruded portion of a new lock actuator with the cut portion of the remote controller (B), then install the link (C).

4. Secure the remote controller and lock actuator with the screw.

4. Verify repair.
