DESCRIPTION

On some vehicles the clearance between the liftgate and rear combination lamp is unequal between the left and right side due to improper assembly location.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify concern.

2. Open the liftgate.

3. Loosen the liftgate securing bolts by one turn (two per side, four total).

4. With the liftgate open, move it up and down by holding the lower edge of the liftgate to move the hinge securing bolts back and forth.

NOTE:
Perform this step with the aid of an assistant.

a. To increase the clearance, move the bolt towards A by moving (pulling) the liftgate downward.

b. To reduce the clearance, move the bolt towards B by moving (pushing) the liftgate upward.

5. Tighten the liftgate securing bolts to hold the liftgate in place. Do not torque.

6. Close the liftgate.

7. Check the height of the liftgate.

NOTE:
Do not allow the liftgate to get higher than the roof. If the liftgate is fitted in a higher position, it will cause a wind noise.

8. Check the clearance between the liftgate and the rear combination lamps. If necessary, repeat steps 2 through 6.

9. Re-tighten the hinge securing bolts (4 pcs) to the specified torque.

Specified tightening torque: 5.76-7.96 ft.lbf (7.8-10.8 Nm/0.80-1.10 kgf.m)

10. Check for any binding at the striker. If necessary, remove the striker bezel, and adjust the striker.

Specified tightening torque: 13.72-18.80 ft.lbf (18.6-25.5 Nm/1.90-2.60 kgf.m)

11. Re-install the parts.

12. Verify repair.
