AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ON WITH DTC B1881

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience an airbag warning light on with DTC B1881 stored in memory.

DTC B1881: Passenger-side pre-tensioner seat belt circuit resistance high.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then wait at least one minute before going to the next step.

3. Remove the side wall. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 09-17 SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.

4. Remove the front console. Refer to M53 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 09-17 FRONT CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.





5. Pull back the floor covering (A) until the fixing clip (B) for the rear harness (C) is visible.





6. Detach the fixing clip from the floor, then cut and remove it from the rear harness. Discard the clip.

NOTE:
Be careful NOT to damage the rear harness when cutting the clip.





7. To loosen the tension of the harness, cut and remove the tape (A) that bundles the driver and passenger side harnesses.

8. Disconnect the rear harness connector from the SAS module.





9. Apply contact cleaner DEOX IT D100S" to the 4 terminals of the rear harness shown below.

NOTE:
DO NOT use any other electrical contact cleaner. DO NOT apply DeoxIT to the SAS control module terminals. If DeoxIT is not available locally, it is available online.

10. Connect the rear harness connector to the SAS module.





11. To loosen the tension of the harness, move the harness up until the end of the tape (A) reaches to the corner of the body panel(B). It is not necessary to cover the hole on the body panel (C).

12. From the noise part set, pick either the sheet of pad 3.0 mm thickness or 5.0 mm thickness.

NOTE:
DO NOT use the thin (0.25 mm) non-woven pad. It does not stick very well to the body panel.





13. Attach the entire pad over the rear harness and fix to the body panel. There is no need to cut the pad.

14. Delete the DTC by M-MDS and verify that no DTC is shown on the the M-MDS.

NOTE:
If this concern is not fixed using this procedure, refer to the Workshop Manual for troubleshooting.

15. Install in the reverse order of removal.

16. Verify repair.
