AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMES ON WITH DTC B2856, B104D, AND/OR B2227

2006-2010 Mazda5

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may experience the airbag warning light coming on with DTC B2856, B104D, and/or B2227 stored in memory. This is caused by salt water entering inside the crash zone sensor connector, creating poor contact between the terminals.

B2856: Crash zone sensor system communication data error

B104D: Crash zone sensor assembly incorrect

B2227: Crash zone sensor communication error

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Replace the crash zone sensor with a modified one. Refer to MS3 online instructions or Workshop Manual section 08-10 CRASH ZONE SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.

WARNING:
Handling the crash zone sensor improperly can accidentally deploy the air bags and pre-tensioner seat belts, which can seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the crash zone sensor. Refer to M53 online instructions or Work-shop Manual section 08-10 AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS and AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS.

3. Verify repair.
