2007 CX-7 - FRONT UPPER DOOR PANEL WRINKLED ON TOP EDGE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2007 CX-7 vehicles with VINs between JM3ER29**70100057 - JM3ER29**70110877 ( produced from Feb. 14, 2006 through May 25, 2006)

DESCRIPTION





Some customers may notice a warped, wavy or wrinkled condition along the top edge of the driver and/or passenger side front upper door panels.

Improvements in upper door panel production have eliminated this appearance concern. Replacement of the affected upper door panel(s) is recommended. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Door Panel Removal

1. Verify customer concern.

2. After opening doors, lower front driver and passenger windows and confirm ignition key OFF position.





3. Remove front A-pillar door inner garnish by pulling trim out and up.

4. Remove cover over armrest screw and remove screw.





5. Carefully remove inner door latch handle cover by inserting pointed plastic trim tool between lock knob and cover, then remove panel screw.





6. Remove passenger assist handle by inserting pointed plastic trim tool underneath bottom of outer plastic cover, then remove two (2) locating screws.

7. Prior to removing door panel, apply masking tape to rear edge door sash area (important to prevent damage to black painted area).

8. Remove door trim, pulling initially from front hinge side and release all eight (8) lower plastic door panel fasteners.

9. Detach inner door latch handle by pushing assembly from backside and sliding out through hole (handle carefully and do not damage door cables or door lock connectors).

10. Disconnect mirror and window switch connectors (three on driver's side and one on passenger side).

NOTE:
During door panel removal it maybe necessary to use a door fastener removal tool (protect door from damage by wrapping tool end with masking tape to prevent scratches).

Upper Door Trim Disassembly

1. Pull down white felt insulation from three (3) adhesion points on inside upper panel.

2. Remove eight (8) screws and separate upper panel from lower panel.





3. Remove inner white plastic clip on passenger side grip handle by pulling down and up. Slide panel away from handle. Mark and discard upper door panel.

Upper Door Trim Assembly

1. Attach new replacement upper panel (kit provided) to lower panel using front and rear edge positioning locator pins into lower panel locator holes.

2. Install and tighten eight (8) locating screws. Do not over-torque screws.Tightening torque: 0.2-0.5 N-m (2-5 kgf-cm)

NOTE:
Carefully position passenger grip from surface side and re-install white plastic clip.

3. Reset white felt insulation onto upper panel and fix in position with masking tape (kit provided) (front and rear edge).

NOTE:
Confirm Steps 2 & 3 are performed correctly.

Door Panel Installation

1. Check condition of eight (8) lower plastic door panel fasteners and replace with new fastener(s) (kit provided) if missing or damaged.

2. Reconnect mirror and window switch connectors (three (3) on driver side, one (1) on passenger side).

3. Insert inner door latch handle through hole and properly set in door panel (check connection of door cables and door lock connectors).

4. Install top edge of door panel and carefully align all eight (8) lower plastic door panel fasteners before pressing panel into position.

NOTE:
Do not hit door panel into position as this could cause marring or discoloration.

5. Remove masking tape protecting black painted door sash area.

6. Tighten door latch handle screw and install cover.

7. Tighten armrest screw and install cover (check cover facing up and proper position).

8. Tighten two (2) passenger side grip handle screws and install plastic handle cover.

9. Install front A-pillar inner garnish cover.

10. Perform "Power Window Initialization Procedure" (below) to restore "anti-pinch" and "auto open/close" window features before returning vehicle to customer or dealer inventory.

POWER WINDOW INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE

1. Turn ignition to ON position.





2. From driver seat ensure window lockout switch is NOT depressed.

3. Press window switch down to fully open door window.





4. Pull window switch up to fully close door window; hold switch up for two (2) seconds; release switch.

5. Move to front passenger seat and repeat Steps 3 - 4 on passenger window switch.

6. Verify proper window operation using each door switch.
