Subject:
KEY CHIME STAYS ON AFTER IGNITION OFF

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2007-2009 CX-9

DESCRIPTION

On vehicles equipped with rear DVD, moonroof, and advance keyless system, the key chime may stay on after the ignition is OFF. This can also prevent "auto lock" operation (if enabled). The cause of this is voltage feedback from the DVD system through the accessory wiring. Installing a diode kit will prevent this from happening.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Turn the ignition OFF.

3. Remove the side trim panel on both sides of the center stack.

4. Set the parking brake.

5. Remove the shift knob and detach the center PRND panel.

NOTE:
Place a soft cloth between the panel and the center console to prevent scratching.

6. Remove the 3 phillips screws from the center stack.

7. Loosen the center panel to locate the front accessory socket.

8. Detach the connector from the socket, then pull the accessory harness outward to allow access.

9. Identify the OE harness (A) and the accessory harness (B), then cut the red wire of the accessory harness approximately 3 inches from the junction.

10. Using pliers and the supplied wire taps (A), secure the diode assembly to accessory harness as shown.

NOTE:
Make sure the diode is situated properly before crimping.

11. Verify the concern is no longer present by doing the following:

a. Turn the ignition to ON position for 5 seconds, then back to OFF.

b. Open the door immediately (within 3 seconds).

^ If no beep is heard and the red key light is not flashing in the instrument cluster, continue to the next step.

^ If a beep is heard and the red key light is flashing in the instrument cluster, check the orientation of the diode.

12. Using the supplied foam pads, wrap the wire taps and diode to prevent them from rattling.

13. If needed, secure the diode to the harness with the supplied tie wraps.

14. Reinstall the removed parts in reverse order, then wipe the area with a clean cloth.
