Spark Plug: Service and Repair
SPARK PLUGS - 2.3L REMOVAL/INSTALLATIONRemoval
1. Detach the 2 wire harness retainers from the ignition coil stud bolts.
2. Disconnect the 4 ignition coil electrical connectors.
3. Remove the 4 stud bolts and the ignition coils.
NOTE: When removing the ignition coil-on-plugs, a slight twisting motion will break the seal and ease removal.
4. Remove the 4 spark plugs.
CAUTION: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, or damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.
NOTE: Use compressed air to remove any foreign material in the spark plug well before removing the spark plugs.
Installation
1. Inspect spark plugs. See SPARK PLUG - INSPECTION. Testing and Inspection
2. Adjust the spark plug gap as necessary.
3. Install the 4 spark plugs.
- Tighten to 12 N.m {1.2 kgf.m, 9 ft.lbf}.
CAUTION: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, or damage can occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.
4. Install the 4 ignition coils and stud bolts.
- Tighten to 8 N.m {0.8 kgf.m, 71 in.lbf}.
NOTE: Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boots before attaching to the spark plugs.
5. Connect the 4 ignition coil electrical connectors.
6. Attach the 2 wire harness retainers to the ignition coil stud bolts.
