Oil Filter: Service and Repair

OIL FILTER ELEMENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - HYBRID

Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position in on a hoist. See Lifting.

2. Loosen the oil filter drain plug.

3. Using a cup-style filter wrench, loosen the oil filter cover one turn.

4. Remove the oil filter drain plug and drain the engine oil from the oil filter and adapter.

- Remove and discard the oil filter drain plug O-ring seal.

5. Remove the oil filter cover and oil filter element.

- Discard the oil filter element.

- Remove and discard the oil filter cover O-ring seal.

Installation

1. Wipe clean the oil filter cover and mounting surface on the oil filter adapter.

2. Install a new oil filter cover O-ring seal.


NOTE: Lubricate the oil filter cover O-ring seal with clean engine oil.

3. Install a new oil filter element and the oil filter cover.

- Using a cup-style oil filter wrench, tighten to 33 Nm {3.3 kgf-m, 24 ft-lbf}.

CAUTION: Do not overtighten the oil filter cover. Overtightening the oil filter cover may damage the cover or O-ring seal and result in an oil leak.
4. Install a new oil filter drain plug O-ring seal.


NOTE: Lubricate the oil filter drain plug O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
5. Install the oil filter drain plug.

- Tighten to 10 Nm {1.0 kgf-m, 89 in-lbf}.

CAUTION: Do not overtighten the oil filter drain plug. Overtightening the oil filter drain plug may damage the drain plug, O-ring seal or cover and result in an oil leak.
