Control Valve Body Removal / Installation
CONTROL VALVE BODY REMOVAL / INSTALLATION
Removal
1 With the vehicle in neutral, position it on a hoist. See Lifting.
2
NOTE:If a transmission has been disassembled to replace worn or damaged parts and the valves in the main control valve body stick repeatedly from foreign material, the torque converter must be removed and cleaned by using a mechanically agitated cleaner, such as the torque converter/fluid cooler cleaner.
Remove the oil pan and oil strainer. See Service and Repair.
3 Remove the wiring loom protector and guide.
- Lift up on wire harness guide and protector and disengage the retaining pins from the solenoid clamps.
1 Disconnect the 6 solenoid electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the (1) SSA, SSB, SSC and SSD electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the (2) torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid electrical connector.
- Disconnect the (3) electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid electrical connector.
1 Remove the control valve detent bolt (1) and spring (2).
2 Remove the reverse servo assembly. See Reverse Servo Assembly Removal / Installation.
3 Do not remove the two (gold) bolts specified.
4
CAUTION:Support the main control valve body until all of the screws are removed, otherwise damage to the main control valve body can occur.Remove the control valve body screws.
5 Remove the control valve body as an assembly.
Installation
1 Install the SST 49-UN01-140 into the transmission case.
2 Install a new gasket and separator.
3
NOTE:Make sure main control to case gasket is properly aligned.Use petroleum jelly to hold gasket in place.
Position the main control valve body, using the 2 special tools as a guide
4
NOTE:The main control valve body bolts will be tightened in later steps.
Loosely install the four M6x45mm main control valve body bolts.
5
NOTE:The main control valve body bolts will be tightened in later steps.
Loosely install the two M6x35mm main control valve body bolts.
6 Remove the SST 49-UN01-140.
7
NOTE:The main control valve body bolts will be tightened in later steps.
Loosely install the M6x30mm main control valve body bolt.
8
NOTE:The main control valve body bolts will be tightened in later steps.
Loosely install the sixteen M6x40mm main control valve body bolts.
9 Tighten the main control valve body bolts in the sequence shown.
10 Install the spring and detent spring bolt.
11 Install the reverse servo assembly. See Reverse Servo Assembly Removal / Installation.
12 Connect the 6 solenoid electrical connectors.
- Connect the (1) SSA, SSB, SSC and SSD electrical connectors.
- Connect the (2) TCC solenoid electrical connector.
- Connect the (3) EPC solenoid electrical connector.
1
CAUTION:Excessive pressure may break the locating pins.Install the wiring loom protector and guide.
- Align the retaining pins to the holes in the solenoid clamps and press in the main control valve body wire harness guide and protector.
1 Install the oil pan and oil strainer. See Service and Repair.
2
NOTE:When filling a dry transmission and converter start with a minimum of 3.7 liters (4 quarts) of clean automatic transmission fluid.
Fill transmission with clean automatic transmission fluid to the correct fluid level.
3 Apply the parking brake and start the engine.
4 Move the transmission range gear selector lever through all the gears.
5 Check the transmission fluid level.
