Flywheel Removal / Installation




FLYWHEEL REMOVAL / INSTALLATION

Removal

1 Remove the clutch disc and clutch cover. See Service and Repair.
2 Using the flywheel holding tool, remove the bolts and the flywheel.







Installation

NOTE:Engine balancing is not required. Balance weights should not be installed on the new flywheel.
NOTE:Special bolts are used for installation. Do not use standard bolts.
Inspect the pilot bearing. Install a new pilot bearing as necessary.
2 Position the flywheel.
3 Using the special tool, install the bolts in the sequence shown, in 3 stages.






- 2.3L Engine:

- Stage 1: Tighten to 50 Nm (5.1 kgf-m, 37 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 80 Nm (8.2 kgf-m, 59 lb-ft).
- Stage 3: Tighten to 112 Nm (11.4 kgf-m, 83 lb-ft).
- 4.0L Engine:

- Stage 1: Tighten to 13 Nm (1.3 kgf-m, 10 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 50 Nm (5.1 kgf-m, 37 lb-ft).
- Stage 3: Tighten an additional 90 degrees.
