INTERMITTENT ENGINE STALL
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2009-2010 CX-9 vehicles with VINS between JM3TB******176815 to 200034 (produced May 01, 2009 through July 31, 2009)
DESCRIPTION
Some vehicles may experience an engine stall. The engine will restart and no DTC is stored. This may be caused by an open circuit in the injector wiring harness and/or short circuit to the Crankshaft Position (CKP) wire shielding near connector 0140-16.
Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Start the engine.
2. Wiggle or gently tug on the injector wiring harness at the CKP connector 0140-16. Refer to figure below, MS3 online, or Wiring Diagram (CONTROL SYSTEM - 0140-f).
3. Does the engine stall?
a. Yes - Replace the injector wiring harness.
b. No - Proceed to Step 4.
4. Turn the engine off.
5. Disconnect connector C-35.
6. Use an ohmmeter to monitor the resistance value at connector C-35 pins (engine side) while wiggling or gently tugging on the wiring harness approximately 10 inches back from the CKP connector 0140-16.
a. Pins T (G/BR) and P (Y/V)
b. Pins T (G/BR) and 2AR (B)
c. Pins P ~/V) and 2AR (B)
7. Does the resistance value change when wiggling or gently tugging on the wiring harness?
a. Yes - Replace the injector wiring harness.
b. No - This bulletin does not apply. Refer to M53 online or Workshop Manual (section 01-03 NO.11 ENGINE STALLS/QUITS, ENGINE RUNS ROUGH, MISSES, BUCK/JERK, HESITATION/STUMBLE, SURGES [MZI-3.7]).
8. Verify repair.
