Bulletin No: 01-049/08

Last Issued: 10/23/2008

Subject:
3.0L - MIL ON - P013C AND/OR P013A SET

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2009 Tribute 3.0L vehicles produced before August 18, 2008

DESCRIPTION

Some 2009 Tribute vehicles equipped with a 3.0L engine and built prior to 8/18/2008 may exhibit DTC P013A and/or P013C. The DTCs may be caused by an exhaust leak at bank 2 Y-pipe ball and flare joint.

- P013A indicates the PCM has determined that the rear HO2S (Bank 1, Sensor 2) is switching slower than the calibrated threshold value.

- P013C indicates the PCM has determined that the rear HO2S (Bank 2, Sensor 2) is switching slower than the calibrated threshold value.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:
^ DTCs P013A / P013C indicating a lack of switch are typically a result of exhaust leaks or exhaust modifications. Exhaust leaks or exhaust modifications will cause Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) out of range voltage readings. The CMS sensor is the least likely cause.

^ Leaks due to exhaust modifications are not covered under Mazda warranty.

1. Verify customer concern.

2. Inspect bank 2 (front of engine) Y-pipe (exhaust crossover pipe) ball and flare joint for exhaust leaks by restricting exhaust flow at the tailpipe. Also look for carbon soot and moisture witness marks indicating a leak at the bank 2 ball and flare joint.

3. If a leak is found replace the Y-pipe assembly. Refer to MS3 repair information or Workshop Manual section 01-15 EXHAUST CROSSOVER PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L.

4. Verify repair.
