Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair

-
SUCTION ACCUMULATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - HYBRID

NOTE:Installation of a new suction accumulator is not required when repairing the air conditioning system, except when there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator. Damage to the receiver/drier includes leaks, physical damage to the receiver/drier shell or desiccant, or moisture contamination. Moisture contamination results only from a complete loss of refrigerant, and equalization of the refrigerant system pressure with atmospheric pressure for a period longer than one hour. If even a slight amount of positive refrigerant pressure is present in the refrigerant system before repairs are carried out, a new receiver/drier should not be installed.
NOTE:The suction accumulator fitting studs can be removed and installed separately from the suction accumulator and are available as service parts. If only the fitting studs are damaged, it is not necessary to install a new suction accumulator.
1. Recover the refrigerant. See Discharging And Recovery.

2. Remove the evaporator outlet line fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.

- Discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm {1.5 kgf-m, 133 in-lbf}.

3. Remove the auxiliary evaporator outlet line fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.

- Discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm {1.5 kgf-m, 133 in-lbf}.

4. Remove the passenger zone valve bracket nut.

- To install, tighten to 7 Nm {0.7 kgf-m, 62 in-lbf}.

5. Disconnect the dual-function pressure switch electrical connector and detach the wire harness from the suction accumulator bracket stud.

6. Remove the auxiliary evaporator inlet line fitting nut and disconnect the fitting.

- Discard the O-ring seal.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm {0.8 kgf-m, 71 in-lbf}.

7. Remove the suction accumulator inlet and outlet fitting nuts and disconnect the outlet fitting.

- Discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal.
- To install, tighten to 15 Nm {1.5 kgf-m, 133 in-lbf}.

8. Remove the 2 suction accumulator nuts and disconnect the suction accumulator inlet fitting.

- Discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal.
- To install, tighten to 7 Nm {0.7 kgf-m, 62 in-lbf}.

9. Remove the suction accumulator.

10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

- Install new gasket seals and O-ring seals.
- Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil. See Refrigerant Oil Adding.

11. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system. See Air Conditioning (A/C) System Evacuation And Charging.
