MAZDA SERVICE PROGRAM (MSP31) - ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY
BULLETIN NOTE
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010 CX-9 vehicles with VINS JM3 TB**** AO 232972 - 236664 (produced from June 30, 2010 through August 2,
2010)
DESCRIPTION
It is possible that the throttle body may not function appropriately, illuminating the malfunction indicator light (MIL) with DTC P2104/P2111 stored in memory. In the worst case, the vehicle may get into the fail-safe mode, limiting the engine revolution, reducing the vehicle speed to 20-25 mph (32-40 kph) or lower.
NOTE:
^ UNDER THE MAZDA SERVICE PROGRAM (MSP31), ALL CURRENT DEALER INVENTORY AND RETAILED VEHICLES FOUND TO BE WITHIN THE ABOVE VIN RANGES, AND PRODUCED BETWEEN JUNE 30, 2010 THROUGH AUGUST 2, 2010, MUST BE INSPECTED AND REPAIRED ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS SERVICE BULLETIN.
^ BEFORE PERFORMING ANY REPAIR, VALIDATE THAT THE VEHICLE IS APPLICABLE TO THIS PROGRAM BY PERFORMING AN "eMDCS WARRANTY VEHICLE INQUIRY" AND VERIFYING THE VEHICLE DISPLAYS CAMPAIGN "MSP31" AND ITS CAMPAIGN STATUS DISPLAYS "OPEN". SEE "VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE" BELOW.
DEALER INVENTORY:
Inspect and repair if necessary, all applicable vehicles currently in dealer inventory according to the procedures contained in this service bulletin.
RETAIL VEHICLES:
When an applicable retail vehicle is brought into the dealer for any type of repair or scheduled maintenance, perform an eMDCS Warranty Vehicle Inspection and check the status of MSP31. If status of MSP31 is "OPEN" inspect and repair if necessary, the vehicle according to the procedures contained in this service bulletin.
VEHICLE INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Verify the vehicle is within JM3 TB**** AO 232972 - 236664 VIN range and produced between June 30, 2010 through August 2, 2010.
- If the vehicle is within the above VIN range, and produced between June 30, 2010 through August 2, 2010, proceed to Step 2.
- If the vehicle is not within above VIN range, return the vehicle to the customer or inventory.
2. Perform a Warranty Vehicle Inquiry using your eMDCS System and inspect the vehicle for a Campaign Label MSP31 attached to the vehicle's hood. Refer to eMDCS System - Warranty Vehicle Inquiry Results table.
NOTE:
Verify the campaign number as the vehicle may have multiple labels.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Replace the throttle body per MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 01-13 INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7]).
VERIFY PROPER THROTTLE BODY OPERATION
2. Turn the key to the "run" position but DO NOT START THE ENGINE.
3. Exercise the throttle body by pushing the throttle pedal to the floor 3 times.
4. Release the throttle pedal.
5. Turn the key off.
6. Check for fault codes using the IDS.
a. Connect the IDS to the DLC-2.
b. Turn the key to the run position but do not start the engine.
c. Run the KOEO Self Test".
d. Check for codes after the test is complete.
e. If no codes are present, or if only codes P1000 and/or P1260 are present, proceed to step g.
f. If codes are present (not including P1000 and/or P1260), refer to M53 online or Workshop Manual (section 01-02 DTC TABLE [MZI-3.7]).
g. Turn the key off.
h. Disconnect the IDS.
7. Fill out a blue "Campaign Label" (9999-95-065A-06) with the Campaign No: MSP31", your dealer code today's date, and affix it to the vehicle's hood.
8. Return the vehicle to the customer.
