Fluid Line/Hose: Service and Repair

TRANSAXLE FLUID COOLER TUBES REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Removal

CAUTION:Automatic transmission fluids are not interchangeable transmission fluids. The use of any fluid other than what is recommended for this transaxle will cause transaxle damage.
1. Remove the front bumper cover. See Service and Repair

2. Remove the air cleaner (ACL) assembly.
a. Remove the ACL assembly bracket bolt.

b. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical connector.

c. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the ACL outlet pipe.

d. Detach the wiring harness fastener from the ACL assembly.

e. Disconnect the engine breather from the ACL assembly.

f. Loosen the ACL outlet pipe clamp at the throttle body (TB) and remove the ACL and ACL outlet pipe assembly.

3. Remove the battery. See Removal and Replacement.

4. Detach the wiring harness retainer from the battery tray, remove the 4 bolts and remove the battery tray.

5. Remove the 2 wiring harness retainers from the battery tray bracket, remove the 4 bolts and remove the battery tray bracket.

6. Disconnect the wiring harness retainer from the main control cover stud bolt.

7. Release the transmission fluid cooler tube retaining clip and remove the transmission fluid cooler tubes from the clip.

8. Compress the constant tension clamps and remove the transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transmission fluid cooler.

9. Remove the secondary latches from the transmission fluid cooler tubes at the transmission.

10. Using the Transmission Cooler Line Disconnect Tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transaxle and remove the transmission fluid cooler tubes.

Installation

1. If installing new transmission fluid cooler tubes, remove the secondary latches and the retainer from the old transmission fluid cooler tubes and install them on the new transmission fluid cooler tubes.

2. Position the transmission fluid cooler tubes in place. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes in the transaxle by inserting the tube into the fitting until a click is heard/felt. Pull back to confirm connection is secure and install the secondary latches.

3. Compress the constant tension clamps and install the transmission fluid cooler tubes on the transmission fluid cooler.

4. Install the transmission fluid cooler tubes in the retaining clip and close the retaining clip.

5. Install the wiring harness retainer on the main control cover stud bolt.

6. Position the battery tray bracket in place, install the 4 bolts and the wiring harness fasteners. Attach the wiring harness retainers to the battery tray.

- Tighten to 9 Nm {0.9 kgf-m, 80 in-lbf}.

7. Position the battery tray in place, install the wiring harness retainer and the 4 bolts.

- Tighten to 9 Nm {0.9 kgf-m, 80 in-lbf}.

8. Install the ACL assembly.
a. Install the ACL assembly bracket bolt.

- Tighten to 11 Nm {1.1 kgf-m, 97 in-lbf}.

b. Connect the MAF sensor electrical connector.

c. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the ACL outlet pipe.

d. Attach the wiring harness fastener to the ACL assembly.

e. Connect the engine breather to the ACL assembly.

f. Tighten the ACL outlet pipe clamp at the TB.

- Tighten to 4 Nm {0.4 kgf-m, 35 in-lbf}.

9. Install the front bumper cover. See Service and Repair.

10. Install the battery. See Removal and Replacement.

11. Check the transmission fluid level and add transmission fluid as necessary.
