VISUAL INSPECTION

This inspection will identify modifications or additions to the vehicle operating system that can affect diagnosis.

- Vehicle modification
- Electronic add-on items
- Air conditioning
- Generators (alternators)
- Engine turbo
- Cellular telephone
- Cruise control
- CB radio
- Linear amplifiers
- Backup alarm signals
- Computer

1. The above items, if not correctly installed, will affect PCM or transaxle function. Pay particular attention to add-on wiring splices in the PCM harness or transaxle wiring harness, abnormal tire size, or axle ratio changes.

2. Leaks. See Leakage Inspection.

3. Correct linkage adjustments. See Adjustments.

Selector Lever Linkage Check

Hydraulic leakage at the manual control valve can cause delay in engagement and/or slipping while operating if the linkage is not correctly adjusted. Correctly adjust the selector lever linkage. See Adjustments.

Check TSBs and Mazda Tips

See all Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and Mazda Tips messages which pertain to the transaxle concern and follow the procedures.

Carry Out On-Board Diagnostics

After a road test, with the vehicle warm and before disconnecting any connectors, carry out the quick test using the scan tool. See PCM Quick Test.
