Torque Converter: Service and Repair
TORQUE CONVERTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AY6A-EL, AY6AX-EL]
CAUTION:
- The oil seal is easily damaged by the sharp edges of the torque converter splines. Do not let the splines contact the oil seal
1. Remove the transaxle. Automatic Transaxle Removal/Installation
2. Clean the transaxle. Automatic Transaxle Cleaning
3. Remove the torque converter, and immediately turn it so that the hole faces upward. This will help to keep any remaining fluid from spilling.
CAUTION:
- Do not damage the oil seal.
- Do not drop the torque converter.
- Clean oil off between the converter housing and torque converter.
- Completely remove ATF with white gasoline or equivalent.
4. Drain any ATF remaining in the torque converter.
5. Using a flathead screwdriver, position the drive gear on the oil pump component in the center.
6. Install the torque converter to the transaxle.
CAUTION:
- Do not damage the oil seal.
- Do not drop the torque converter.
- Do not pinch fingers.
7. To ensure that the torque converter is installed accurately, measure distance A between the end of the torque converter and the end of the converter housing.
Distance A (between the end of the torque converter and the end of the converter housing)
- 20 mm {0.79 in}
8. Install the transaxle. Automatic Transaxle Removal/Installation
9. Add ATF. Adjustments
10. Adjust the ATF level. Adjustments
11. Perform the "Mechanical System Test". Mechanical System Test
