ABS warning light illuminates

POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  ABS CM malfunction
•  DTC is stored in ABS CM
•  Instrument cluster malfunction
•  Connector or pin malfunction
•  Short to GND circuit in wiring between instrument cluster and ABS CM.

Diagnostic procedure

ACTION

•  Start the engine.
•  Does the ABS warning light turn off?
Yes
Troubleshooting completed.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Connect the M-MDS to DLC-2.
•  Retrieve the on-demand and continuous memory DTC from ABS CM.
•  Is there any DTC displayed?
Yes
Perform the appropriate DTC troubleshooting procedure.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Turn the ignition (F2, G6)/engine (WE-C, WL-3, WL-C, WLT-1, WLT-2) switch off.
•  Inspect the instrument cluster connector terminals for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out pins, and corrosion).
•  Are the terminals normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the terminal.

•  Turn the ignition (F2, G6)/engine (WE-C, WL-3, WL-C, WLT-1, WLT-2) switch to LOCK position.
•  Connect the instrument cluster connector.
•  Disconnect the ABS CM connector.
•  Short to GND at ABS CM terminal D using the jumper wire.
•  Turn the ignition (F2, G6)/engine (WE-C, WL-3, WL-C, WLT-1, WLT-2) switch to ON position.
•  Does the auto leveling warning light illuminate?
Yes
Replace the ABS CM.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Turn the ignition (F2, G6)/engine (WE-C, WL-3, WL-C, WLT-1, WLT-2) switch to LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the instrument cluster connector (with ABS CM connector disconnected).
•  Verify continuity between instrument cluster terminal 2L and GND.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace for short to GND.
No
Replace the instrument cluster.
