Power steering fluid replacement

1. Power steering fluid drain

1) Disconnect the suction hose from the suction pipe.

Note

  • Place a container under the power steering oil pump so as not to spill power steering fluid.

2) Disconnect the flexible hose from the outlet port of the power steering oil pump.

Caution

  • Seal the pipes, hoses, and ports to prevent the intrusion of foreign material.

3) Remove the clamp from the vehicle.

4) Remove the clip from the feed line and return line.

5) Disconnect the feed line from the power steering unit.

Note

  • Place the container under the power steering unit so that power steering fluid is not spilled.

6) Disconnect the return line from the power steering unit.

Note

  • Remove the clip from the cross member and frame.

7) Secure the feed line and return line to the frame with wire.

8) Turn the steering wheel left and right to drain the power steering fluid from the power steering unit.

Caution

  • Seal the pipes, hoses, and ports to prevent the intrusion of foreign material.

9) Drain the power steering fluid from the reservoir tank.

2. Power steering fluid filling

Caution

  • Do not turn the steering wheel during the filling process unless instructed to do so.

1) Connect the return line to the power steering unit.

Tightening torque: 25 N・m { 2.5 kgf・m / 18 lb・ft }

2) Connect the feed line to the power steering unit.

Tightening torque: 25 N・m { 2.5 kgf・m / 18 lb・ft }

3) Install the clip to the feed line and return line.

Note

  • Install the clip to the positions of the paint marks.

4) Install the clamp to the vehicle.

Tightening torque: 8.0 N・m { 0.8 kgf・m / 71 lb・in }

Note

  • If the clamp is removed from the feed line or return line, install to the position of the paint mark.

5) Connect the flexible hose to the outlet port of the power steering oil pump.

Tightening torque: 8.0 N・m { 0.8 kgf・m / 71 lb・in } 4JJ3 engine models

Tightening torque: 20 N・m { 2.0 kgf・m / 15 lb・ft } RZ4E-TC engine models

Note

  • If the flexible hose has a detent, install so that the detent makes full contact with the power steering oil pump.

6) Connect the suction hose to the suction pipe.

7) Fill the reservoir tank with power steering fluid.

Note

  • Leave for at least 2 minutes after filling the power steering fluid.
  • Fill with power steering fluid between "MAX" and "MIN" lines written on the reservoir tank.

For the oil amount, refer to the following.

Refer to the following for the brand to be used.

Refer to "201.General Information 14B.Vehicle Information recommended fluids, lubricants and diesel fuels".

8) Start the engine and leave for 2 seconds.

9) Stop the engine.

10) Fill with the power steering fluid as necessary.

Caution

  • Repeat the above process until the amount of the power steering fluid is stable when the engine is started.

11) Jack up the front wheels.

Note

  • Raise the front of the vehicle until the font tires are off the ground.

12) Start the engine.

13) Turn the steering wheel to the rightmost and leftmost several times.

14) Fill with the power steering fluid as necessary.

15) Turn the steering wheel to the rightmost and leftmost several times.

16) Return the steering wheel to the center position with the front wheels directed straight ahead.

17) Lower the vehicle.

18) Stop the engine.

19) Refill the power steering fluid as necessary.

Caution

  • If the power steering fluid bubbles, leave the vehicle for several minutes and then repeat the above process.
