Note
Refer to "51.Engine Control 1A.Troubleshooting(4JJ3 with DPD) Diagnostic system check-engine controls".
1) Connect the scan tool.
2) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 1 minute or more.
3) Start the engine.
4) Observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Is DTC P0117 set at the same time?
Yes
Go to DTC P0117 diagnosis.
Refer to "51.Engine Control 1A.Troubleshooting(4JJ3 with DPD) DTC P0117 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Circuit Low".
No
=>Go to Engine cooling system inspection.
1) Inspect the engine cooling system for the following. Is the result normal?
Refer to "1.Engine 1D.Cooling(4JJ3 with DPD) coolant inspection".
Refer to "1.Engine 1D.Cooling(4JJ3 with DPD) cooling fan belt inspection".
Refer to "1.Engine 1D.Cooling(4JJ3 with DPD) cooling fan clutch inspection".

Refer to "1.Engine 1D.Cooling(4JJ3 with DPD) water pump inspection".
Refer to "1.Engine 1D.Cooling(4JJ3 with DPD) radiator inspection".
Yes
=>Go to Engine coolant temperature check.
No
Repair or replace as necessary.
1) While observing the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) parameter on the scan tool, start the engine and wait until it is completely warmed up. Is the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) parameter more than or equal to the specified value?
Value: 110 ℃ { 230 °F }
Yes
=>Go to Engine coolant temperature sensor inspection.
No
Ask the driver if the overheat occurred due to low engine coolant level, etc. If an engine overheat has occurred in the past, make sure to inspect the engine, and repair as necessary.
1) Test the engine coolant temperature sensor at various temperatures, and evaluate the possibility of sensor malfunction. Sensor malfunction may reduce drivability.
Refer to "1.Engine 1Z.Engine Electrical Control(4JJ3 with DPD) engine coolant temperature sensor inspection".
2) Replace the engine coolant temperature sensor as necessary.
Refer to "1.Engine 1Z.Engine Electrical Control(4JJ3 with DPD) engine coolant temperature sensor removal".
Refer to "1.Engine 1Z.Engine Electrical Control(4JJ3 with DPD) engine coolant temperature sensor installation".
Procedure completion
1) Clear the DTC with a scan tool.
2) Turn OFF the ignition switch for 1 minute or more.
3) While observing the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) parameter on the scan tool, start the engine and wait until it is completely warmed up. Is the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) parameter more than or equal to the specified value?
Value: 110 ℃ { 230 °F }
Yes
=>Go to Prioritized DTC check.
No
Observe the DTC information with a scan tool.
