DTC P0712 (Flash Code 15) Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor "A" Circuit Low (AWR6B45)

1. DTC P0712 description

Transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 is installed on the valve body assembly together with the transmission internal harness and detects the ATF temperature inside the valve body. Transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 is a variable resistor and is equipped with a signal circuit and a low reference circuit.
The TCM supplies 5 V power to the signal circuit of transmission fluid temperature sensor 1, and grounds to the low reference circuit. When the ATF temperature inside the valve body is low, the sensor resistance is large, and as the ATF temperature inside the valve body rises, the sensor resistance decreases. When the resistance of the sensor is large, the TCM detects a high voltage in the transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit, and when the resistance of the sensor is small, it detects a low voltage in the transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 signal circuit. If the TCM detects that the ATF temperature is excessively high, the DTC is set.

2. Condition for setting DTC P0712

Condition for running the DTC

  • The ignition switch is ON.
  • The battery voltage is 9.0 to 16.0 V.

Condition for setting the DTC

  • The TCM detects that the ATF temperature is 200°C {392°F} or more for 5 seconds or more.

Note

  • At this time, the Transmission Fluid Temperature 1 (TFT1) parameter on the scan tool indicates 171°C {340°F}.

3. Action taken when DTC P0712 sets

  • The TCM flashes the check trans warning light. Refer to Action taken when DTC sets - Type A.

Refer to "55.Transmission Control 5A.Troubleshooting(AWR6B45) DTC type definitions".

  • The TCM inhibits the self-learning control.
  • The TCM inhibits the slip lock-up control.
  • The TCM fixes the temperature of transmission fluid temperature sensor 1 to 80°C {176°F}.

4. Condition for clearing DTC P0712

  • Refer to Condition for clearing the MIL, check trans warning light/DTC - Type A or Type B.

Refer to "55.Transmission Control 5A.Troubleshooting(AWR6B45) DTC type definitions".
