Cruise control system check (models with stereo camera) (4JJ3 without DPD)

The cruise control system consists of the ECM, cruise control main switch, cruise control set switch, cruise control resume switch, and cruise control cancel switch. The cruise control function allows the driver to maintain a set vehicle speed. When the cruise control main switch is turned ON, a signal is input to the ECM, and the cruise control indicator light illuminates. Operating the cruise control set switch to the SET (-) side inputs a signal to the ECM, and the vehicle speed at the time the switch was operated is set. Operating the cruise control set switch to the SET (-) side decreases the set vehicle speed. In addition, operating the cruise control resume switch to the RES (+) side increases the set vehicle speed. When the cruise control cancel switch is pressed, a signal is input to the ECM, and the cruise control system is canceled.

1. Conditions for running the cruise control

  • The vehicle speed is approximately 40 km/h {24 mph} or more.
  • The engine speed is 4,500 rpm or less.
  • The cruise control main switch is ON.

1) SET function

If the cruise control set switch is turned to the SET (-) side and released while the conditions for running the cruise control are met, the ECM memorizes and maintains the vehicle speed at that time.

2) COAST function

If the cruise control set switch is turned to the SET (-) side while the cruise control system is running, the vehicle speed will be decreased as long as the switch is held. Afterwards, if the cruise control set switch is released, the vehicle will maintain the vehicle speed at that time.

3) RESUME function

If the cruise control resume switch is turned to the RES (+) side while the cruise control system is running, the vehicle speed will be returned to the vehicle speed memorized by the ECM.

4) ACCEL function

If the cruise control resume switch is turned to the RES (+) side while the cruise control system is running, the vehicle speed will be increased as long as the switch is held. Afterwards, if the cruise control resume switch is released, the vehicle will maintain the vehicle speed at that time.

5) Temporary acceleration function

If the accelerator pedal is depressed while the cruise control system is running, the vehicle speed will be increased.

6) Temporary cancellation function

The cruise control is canceled temporarily if any of the following are met.

  • The cruise control cancel switch is ON.
  • Depress the brake pedal.
  • The clutch pedal is depressed (M/T models).
  • The actual vehicle speed decreases to below 35 km/h {22 mph}.
  • The actual vehicle speed exceeds the set speed by more than or equal to 40 km/h {25 mph}, or exceeds the set speed by more than or equal to 10 km/h {6 mph} for 3 minutes or longer.
  • The actual vehicle speed is less than the set speed by 70 km/h {42 mph} or more, or is less than the set speed by 10 km/h {6 mph} or more for 3 minutes or more.

If the cruise control resume switch is operated while the conditions for running the cruise control are met, the vehicle speed is returned to the vehicle speed memorized by the ECM.

7) Complete cancellation function

The cruise control is canceled completely if any of the following are met.

  • The cruise control main switch is OFF.
  • The ignition switch is OFF.
  • The vehicle is stopped.
  • A related DTC that inhibits the cruise control system is set.
