The SRS control unit communicates with the scan tool via the CAN communication circuit. The SRS control unit also communicates with other control units via the CAN communication circuit.
The following conditions cause poor CAN communication.
- Open circuit in the CAN communication circuit
- Short together between the CAN Low circuit and the CAN High circuit
- Short to ground or short to the power supply circuit in the CAN communication circuit
- Failure inside the control unit, which causes a short to ground or a short to the power supply circuit in the CAN communication circuit
Warning
- During the maintenance work, do not hit or shake the SRS control unit when handling it.
- If the SRS control unit is not properly installed, the SRS control unit may cause malfunctions. This may result in deployment of the SRS airbag and personal injury.
Caution
- To prevent the SRS parts to be replaced from malfunctioning and generating a battery short circuit, make sure to disconnect the battery cable before replacing the parts.
