DTC P1A31[04] Transfer Motor Actuator Unit System Malfunction (4WD models)

1. DTC P1A31[04] information

The transfer actuator is installed to the transfer and performs switching between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, and between High and Low using one actuator. The transfer actuator consists of the following components.

  • ECU
  • Motor
  • position sensor

When the ECU with a built-in transfer actuator detects a malfunction in power supply, CAN communication, motor, or position sensor, it sends the diagnosis information to the TCCM. If the TCCM receives a failure message from the transfer actuator, this DTC is set.

2. Condition for setting DTC P1A31[04]

Condition for running the DTC

  • The battery voltage is 10 to 16 V.
  • The CAN2 is normal.

3. Condition for setting the DTC

  • The TCCM receives a failure message of the position sensor from the transfer actuator.

4. Action taken when DTC P1A31[04] sets

  • The TCCM illuminates the check 4WD warning light when the diagnostic runs and fails.
  • The current transfer position is retained.
  • The TCCM is reset after the ignition switch turns OFF.
