DTC B1706[12] Front/Rear Wiper Output Circuit Short to Battery (BCM)

1. DTC B1706[12] description

  • Design blade type (BCM control type: Direct)

The front wiper control circuit consists of the windshield wiper switch, rain and light sensor (if equipped), front wiper (ON/OFF) relay, front wiper H/L (high/low) relay, and wiper motor. When the wiper HI switch signal or the wiper HI operation request from the rain and light sensor is input, the BCM turns ON the front wiper H/L relay. If the BCM detects a short to the power supply or an overloading to the front wiper H/L relay drive circuit, the DTC is set.

  • Flat blade type (BCM control type: LIN communication)

The windshield washer circuit consists of the windshield washer switch, washer relay, and washer motor. When the windshield washer switch signal is input, the BCM turns ON the washer relay. If the BCM detects a short to the power supply or an overloading to the wiper ON circuit, the DTC is set.

2. Condition for setting DTC B1706[12]

Condition for running the DTC

  • The ignition switch is ON.

Design blade type

  • The BCM commands the front wiper H/L relay OFF.

Flat blade type

  • The BCM commands the washer relay OFF.

Condition for setting the DTC

Any of the following conditions are met:

Design blade type

  • The BCM detects a short to the power supply in the front wiper H/L relay drive circuit for 2.5 seconds or more.
  • The BCM detects an overloading to the front wiper H/L relay drive circuit for 2 seconds or more.

Flat blade type

  • The BCM detects a short to the power supply in the washer relay drive circuit for 2.5 seconds or more.
  • The BCM detects an overloading to the washer relay drive circuit for 2 seconds or more.

3. Action taken when DTC B1706[12] sets

  • The output of the front wiper is fixed in low until the next command is given.
  • Current and past failures are set.
