Rear differential lock switch system check (Differential Lock)

1. Differential lock control system check

Refer to "53.Driveline Control 3A.Troubleshooting(Differential Lock) diagnostic system check - differential lock controls".

2. Rear differential lock switch signal input check

1) Connect the scan tool.

2) Turn ON the ignition switch.

3) Observe the Rear Differential Lock Switch parameter on the scan tool while operating the rear differential lock switch. Does the Rear Differential Lock Switch parameter change when the switch is operated?

Yes

The system is normal.

No

=>Go to Rear differential lock switch inspection.

3. Rear differential lock switch inspection

1) Inspect the rear differential lock switch. Is the result normal?

Refer to "9.Body, Cab, Accessories 9C.Electrical Control, Entertainment differential lock switch inspection".

Yes

=>Go to Wire harness and connector inspection.

No

Replace the rear differential lock switch.

Refer to "9.Body, Cab, Accessories 9C.Electrical Control, Entertainment differential lock switch removal".

Refer to "9.Body, Cab, Accessories 9C.Electrical Control, Entertainment differential lock switch installation".

=>Go to Repair verification.

4. Wire harness and connector inspection

1) Turn OFF the ignition switch.

2) Disconnect the rear differential lock control unit harness connector (C57) and rear differential lock switch harness connector (C84).

3) Inspect the wire harnesses and connectors for the following. Is the result normal?

Wire harness to be inspected

  • Between the IG2:ELEC IG2 10A fuse and the rear differential lock switch (pin 3 of C84)
  • Between the rear differential lock switch (pin 2 of C84) and the rear differential lock control unit (pin 4 of C57)

Refer to "RHD Differential Lock" in the ETM (wiring diagram). (Open using the ETM viewer.).

Inspection items

  • Open circuit
  • High resistance
  • Short to ground or short to other circuits
  • Terminal connection status

Yes

=>Go to Rear differential lock switch signal input follow-up check.

No

Repair the circuit as necessary.

=>Go to Repair verification.

5. Rear differential lock switch signal input follow-up check

1) Securely connect the disconnected harness connectors.

2) Connect the scan tool.

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the Rear Differential Lock Switch parameter on the scan tool while operating the rear differential lock switch. Does the Rear Differential Lock Switch parameter change when the switch is operated?

Yes

The system is normal.

No

=>Go to Rear differential lock control unit replacement.

6. Rear differential lock control unit replacement

Note

  • Perform programming after replacing the rear differential lock control unit.

Procedure completion

=>Go to Repair verification.

7. Repair verification

1) Securely connect the disconnected harness connectors.

2) Connect the scan tool.

3) Turn ON the ignition switch.

4) Observe the Rear Differential Lock Switch parameter on the scan tool while operating the rear differential lock switch. Does the Rear Differential Lock Switch parameter change when the switch is operated?

Yes

Go to Diagnostic system check - differential lock controls.

Refer to "53.Driveline Control 3A.Troubleshooting(Differential Lock) diagnostic system check - differential lock controls".

No

=>Go to Rear differential lock switch inspection.
