DTC P2457 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Cooling System Performance (4JJ3 with DPD)

1. DTC P2457 description

EGR gas temperature sensor 1 (exhaust manifold side) is installed to the exhaust manifold. EGR gas temperature sensor 1 (exhaust manifold side) measures the exhaust gas temperature at the EGR cooler inlet. EGR gas temperature sensor 2 (EGR valve side) is installed to the EGR valve adapter. EGR gas temperature sensor 2 (EGR valve side) measures the exhaust gas temperature at the EGR cooler outlet. The ECM continually monitors the difference between the temperatures input from both sensors. If the ECM detects that the difference between the temperatures input from both sensors is less than the calculated value, the DTC is set.

Condition for running the DTC

  • DTCs P003A, P0045, P0048, P0112, P0113, P0117, P0118, P0122, P0123, P0182, P0183, P0241, P0242, P0403, P041C, P041D, P04D0, P04D1, P060B, P0638, P0641, P0651, P0697, P06A3, P06D2, P2227, P2228, P2229, P2453, P2454, P2455, P245C, P245D, U0074, U010A, and U0110 are not set.

  • The battery voltage is 10 to 16 V.
  • The ignition switch is ON.

Also, the following are met for the predetermined time or more:

  • The EGR valve opening position is 10% or more, and does not change by 10% or more.
  • The EGR cooler bypass valve is stopped.
  • The engine speed is 1200 rpm or more and does not change by 1200 rpm or more.
  • The fuel injection quantity is within the predetermined range and does not change by 5 mm3/st or more.
  • The boost pressure does not change by 5 kPa {0.7 psi} or more.
  • The fuel temperature is 150°C {302°F} or less.
  • The engine coolant temperature is 65℃ {149°F} or more.

Condition for setting the DTC

  • The ECM detects that the temperature difference between EGR gas temperatures 1 and 2 is less than the calculated value for 4 seconds. (This indicates a reduced EGR cooler performance.)

3. Action taken when DTC P2457 sets

  • The ECM illuminates the MIL. Refer to Action taken when DTC sets - Type B.
