Wheel Bearing Excessive Play Inspection

1.  Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Remove the brake caliper component from the steering knuckle and suspend it out of the way using a cable. (See FRONT BRAKE DISC REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [WITH SINGLE PISTON FLOATING CALIPER].) (See FRONT BRAKE DISC REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [WITH 2-PISTON FLOATING CALIPER].)

3.  Remove the front disc plate. (See FRONT BRAKE DISC REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [WITH SINGLE PISTON FLOATING CALIPER].) (See FRONT BRAKE DISC REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [WITH 2-PISTON FLOATING CALIPER].)

4.  Install the magnetic base and dial gauge as shown in the figure and measure the wheel bearing axial excessive play.

Front wheel bearing maximum play
0.05 mm {0.002 in}
•  If it exceeds the maximum specification, replace the wheel hub bearing. (See WHEEL HUB, STEERING KNUCKLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
