SHIFT-LOCK OVERRIDE BUTTON INSPECTION

1.  Verify that the selector lever is in the P position.

2.  Switch the ignition off.

3.  Verify that the selector lever cannot be shifted from the P position when the brake pedal is not depressed.

4.  Perform the following procedure for vehicles with shift-lock override cover.

(1)  Remove the release button cover using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.

(2)  Insert the flathead screwdriver and press the release button.

5.  Perform the following procedure for vehicles without shift-lock override cover.

(1)  Press the shift-lock override button.

6.  Verify that the selector lever can be shifted from the P position.

•  If it cannot be verified, replace the selector lever component. (See SELECTOR LEVER COMPONENT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
