STEERING ANGLE SENSOR INSPECTION

id091800813400

Note
•  If the steering angle sensor is removed from the clock spring, the steering angle sensor absolute angle could change, therefore, do not remove the steering angle sensor from the clock spring.
•  If the steering angle sensor is replaced, replace it together with the clock spring. (See CLOCK SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)

1.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

2.  Open the driver's door.

3.  Switch the ignition off.

4.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

5.  Remove the column cover. (See COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

6.  Connect a tester positive side to steering angle sensor terminal A, and connect terminal B (ground) to negative side.

7.  Install the steering wheel. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

8.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

9.  Turn the steering wheel to the left and right.

10.  Verify that the voltage from steering angle sensor terminal A to B (ground) is as indicated in the figure.

•  If the voltage can be verified as indicated in the table, go to the next step.
•  If the voltage is not as indicated in the table, replace the clock spring. (See CLOCK SPRING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)

11.  Switch the ignition to off (LOCK).

12.  Remove the steering wheel. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

13.  Connect a tester positive side to steering angle sensor terminal C, and connect terminal B (ground) to negative side.

14.  Install the steering wheel. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

15.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

16.  Turn the steering wheel to the left and right.

17.  Verify that the voltage from steering angle sensor terminal C to B (ground) is as indicated in the figure.
