CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR INSPECTION [MZI-3.7]

Visual Inspection

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

2.  Remove the battery. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

3.  Remove the following parts for easier access:

•  MAF/IAT sensor connector
•  Resonance chamber and air cleaner assy (See INTAKE-AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

4.  Disconnect the CMP sensor connector.

5.  Remove the CMP sensor. (See CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

6.  Verify that there are no metal shavings on the CMP sensor.

•  If there is a malfunction, remove any metal shavings that are adhering.


Resistance Inspection

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)

2.  Remove the CMP sensor connector.

3.  Measure the resistance between CMP sensor terminals A and B.

•  If not within the specification, replace the CMP sensor. (See CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7].)
