No sound from audio system

POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  Poor connection of microphone connector, terminal damage
•  Poor connection of car-navigation unit connector, terminal damage
•  Poor connection of Bluetooth unit connector, terminal damage
•  Microphone malfunction
•  Open circuit in wiring harness between car-navigation unit and each speaker.
•  Speaker malfunction
•  Bluetooth unit malfunction
•  Car-navigation unit malfunction
Note
•  Car-navigation unit turns to “AUDIO OFF” when the “TALK” button is turned to ON with the microphone disconnected.


Diagnostic procedure

•  Turn the ignition switch to ACC position.
•  Start audio system by pressing the audio system button (AM/FM, DISC), after the map is displayed on the screen.
•  Adjust volume to 30 with VOLUME knob.
•  Is there sound from all speaker/tweeter?
Yes
The system is normal.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Start diagnostic function and indicate “Vehicle Signal” check screen.
•  Drive the vehicle.
•  Check the “Microphone” on the diagnosis screen
•  Does the “Microphone” indicate OK?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 14.

•  Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
•  Inspect the connection of microphone connector (6-pin).
•  Is the connector securely connected?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Securely connect the microphone.

•  Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the microphone connector (6-pin).
•  Inspect both microphone connector and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled out pins, corrosion).
•  Are all the pins normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If the microphone connector is wrong:
•  Replace the microphone.
If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong:
•  Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.

•  Remove the Bluetooth unit.
•  Inspect the connection of the Bluetooth unit connector (6-pin).
•  Is the connector securely connected?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Securely connect the Bluetooth unit connector.

•  Disconnect the Bluetooth unit connector (24-pin).
•  Inspect both Bluetooth unit connector and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled out pins, corrosion).
•  Are all the pins normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If the Bluetooth unit connector is wrong:
•  Replace the Bluetooth unit.
If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong:
•  Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.

•  Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
•  Inspect the connection of car-navigation unit connector (6-pin).
Is the connector securely connected?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Securely connect the car-navigation unit.

•  Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the car-navigation unit connector (6-pin).
•  Inspect both car-navigation unit connector and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled out pins, corrosion).
•  Are all the pins normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If the car-navigation unit connector is wrong:
•  Replace the car-navigation unit.
If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong:
•  Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.

•  Inspect the following wiring harness the microhone and Bluetooth unit.
―  Terminal A (6-pin, MIC+)—Terminal A (24-pin, MIC IN+)
―  Terminal B (6-pin, MIC-)—Terminal B (24-pin, MIC IN-)
―  Terminal C (6-pin, MIC B+)—Terminal C (24-pin, MIC B+)
―  Terminal D (6-pin, GND)—Terminal D (24-pin, MIC GND)
―  Terminal F (6-pin, MIC SENSE)—Terminal E (24-pin, MIC SENSE)
•  Is there open or short circuit?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected wiring harness.
No
Go to the next step.

•  Inspect the following wiring harness between the Bluetooth unit and car-navigation unit.
―  Terminal G (24-pin, MIC OUT +)—Terminal 3A (6-pin, MIC+)
―  Terminal H (24-pin, MIC OUT -)—Terminal 3B (6-pin, MIC-)
―  Terminal E (24-pin, MIC SENSE)—Terminal 3E (6-pin, MIC SENSE)
•  Is there open or short circuit?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected wiring harness.
No
Replair the microhone.

•  Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
•  Inspect the connection of car-navigation unit connector (24-pin).
•  Is the connector securely connected?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Securely connect the car-navigation unit.

•  Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the car-navigation unit connector (24-pin).
•  Inspect both car-navigation unit connector and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled out pins, corrosion).
•  Are all the pins normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If the car-navigation unit connector is wrong:
•  Replace the car-navigation unit.
If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong:
•  Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.

•  Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
•  Inspect the connection of each speaker connector (2-pin).
•  Are the connectors securely connected?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Securely connect the speaker.

•  Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the all speaker connectors.
•  Inspect each speaker and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled out pins, corrosion.)
•  Are all the pins normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
If the speaker or tweeter connector is wrong:
•  Replace the suspect part.
If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong:
•  Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.

•  Inspect for continuity between following terminals:
―  Car-navigation unit terminal 1A (LH+)—audio amplifier terminal 2L
―  Car-navigation unit terminal 1C (LH-)—audio amplifier terminal 2J
―  Car-navigation unit terminal 1D (RH+)—audio amplifier terminal 2K
―  Car-navigation unit terminal 1F (RH-)—audio amplifier terminal 2I
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the related wiring harness between the audio amplifier and the car-navigation unit.
Then go to the next step.

•  Inspect the connection of the audio amplifier connector.
•  Is the connector connected securely?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Connect the audio amplifier securely.

•  Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
•  Disconnect the audio amplifier connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between following terminals: Inspect the continuity between the following terminals of the audio amplifier connector and speaker connector.
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3A—front speaker (LH) terminal A
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3B—front speaker (LH) terminal B
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3F—front speaker (RH) terminal A
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3D—front speaker (RH) terminal B
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3N—front door speaker (LH) terminal A
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3L—front door speaker (LH) terminal B
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3M—front door speaker (RH) terminal A
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3K—front door speaker (RH) terminal B
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3G—rear door speaker (LH) terminal A
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3I—rear door speaker (LH) terminal B
―  Audio amplifier terminal 3E—rear door speaker (RH) terminal A

Repair or replace the related wiring harnesses.

•  Inspect each speaker.
•  Are all speakers normal?
Yes
Replace the car-navigation unit.
No
Replace the malfunctioning speaker.
