Speech recognition does not start.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

•  Poor connection of car-navigation unit connector, terminal damage

•  Poor connection of microhone connector, terminal damage

•  Poor connection of Bluetooth unit connector, terminal damage

•  Open or short circuit in wiring harness between microphone and Bluetooth unit.

•  Open or short circuit in wiring harness between car-navigation unit and Bluetooth unit.

•  Microphone malfunction

•  Bluetooth unit malfunction

•  Car-navigation unit malfunction

POSSIBLE CAUSE	• Poor connection of car-navigation unit connector, terminal damage • Poor connection of microhone connector, terminal damage • Poor connection of Bluetooth unit connector, terminal damage • Open or short circuit in wiring harness between microphone and Bluetooth unit. • Open or short circuit in wiring harness between car-navigation unit and Bluetooth unit. • Microphone malfunction • Bluetooth unit malfunction • Car-navigation unit malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	• Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. • Start the car-navigation. • Display the map screen. • Press the Voice switch (at steering switch). • Is the speech recognition icon displayed on the screen upper left?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Go to Step 4.
2	• Launch the diagnostic mode. (See STARTING PROCEDURE FOR DIAGNOSTIC MODE [CAR-NAVIGATION SYSTEM].) • Select “Menu”. • Select “Microphone Check”. • After pressing the Voice switch, speak a command towards the microphone. • Inspect the “Microphone input level judging”. • Is a judging “OK” (green display)?	Yes	The system is normal. Caution • Sound may not be recognized by the influence of the following. ― Speaker’s speaking method ― Road noise ― Other noises
2		No	Replace the microphone, then go to the next step.
3	• Does the speech recognition improve?	Yes	Troubleshooting is completed.
3	• Does the speech recognition improve?	No	Replace the car-navigation unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4	• Start diagnostic function and indicate “Vehicle Signal” check screen. (See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC [CAR-NAVIGATION SYSTEM].) • Inspect the display of “Microphone” in vehicle signal screen. • Is “OK” displayed?	Yes	Go to the next step.
4		No	Go to Step 6.
5	• Turn on the audio function (RADIO or CD). • Press the Voice switch (at steering switch). • Does it mute?	Yes	Replace the car-navigation unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
5		No	Steering switch related part malfunction. Go to the audio system troubleshooting.
6	• Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position. • Remove the microphone. • Inspect the connection of the microphone connector (6-pin). • Is the connector securely connected?	Yes	Go to the next step.
6		No	Securely connect the microphone connector.
7	• Disconnect the microphone connector (6-pin). • Inspect both microphone connector and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled out pins, corrosion). • Are all the pins normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
7		No	If the microphone connector is wrong: • Replace the car-navigation unit. (See MICROPHONE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong: • Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.
8	• Remove the Bluetooth unit. (See Bluetooth UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) • Inspect the connection of the Bluetooth unit connector (6-pin). • Is the connector securely connected?	Yes	Go to the next step.
8		No	Securely connect the Bluetooth unit connector.
9	• Disconnect the Bluetooth unit connector (24-pin). • Inspect both Bluetooth connector and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled out pins, corrosion). • Are all the pins normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
9		No	If the Bluetooth connector is wrong: • Replace the Bluetooth unit. (See Bluetooth UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong: • Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.
10	• Remove the car-navigation unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) • Inspect the connection of the car-navigation unit connector (6-pin). • Is the connector securely connected?	Yes	Go to the next step.
10		No	Securely connect the car-navigation unit connector.
11	• Disconnect the car-navigation unit connector (6-pin). • Inspect both car-navigation unit connector and wiring harness-side connector for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled out pins, corrosion). • Are all pins normal?	Yes	Go to the next step.
11		No	If the car-navigation unit connector is wrong: • Replace the car-navigation unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) If the wiring harness-side connector is wrong: • Repair or replace the pins and/or the connector.
12	• Inspect the following wiring harness between the microhone and Bluetooth unit. ― Terminal A (6-pin, MIC+) — Terminal A (24-pin, MIC IN+) ― Terminal B (6-pin, MIC-) — Terminal B (24-pin, MIC IN-) ― Terminal C (6-pin, MIC B+) — Terminal C (6-pin, MIC B+) ― Terminal D (6-pin, GND) — Terminal D (24-pin, GND) ― Terminal F (6-pin, MIC SENSE) — Terminal F (24-pin, MIC SENSE) • Is there open or short circuit?	Yes	Repair or replace suspected wiring harness.
12		No	Go to the next step.
13	• Inspect the following wiring harness between the Bluetooth unit and car-navigation unit. ― Terminal G (24-pin, MIC OUT +) — Terminal 3A (6-pin, MIC+) ― Terminal H (24-pin, MIC OUT -) — Terminal 3B (6-pin, MIC-) ― Terminal E (24-pin, MIC SENSE) — Terminal 3E (24-pin, MIC SENSE) • Is there open or short circuit?	Yes	Repair or replace suspected wiring harness.
13		No	Replace the microphone. (See MICROPHONE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.) Then go to the next step.
14	• Does the speech recognition improve?	Yes	Troubleshooting is completed.
14	• Does the speech recognition improve?	No	Replace the car-navigation unit. (See CAR-NAVIGATION UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
