-
Note
-
• There are two types of transfers, type A or B, and each has a different filler plug position. Verify which type is equipped before servicing because oil inspection procedure varies depending on the type of transfer.
-
― Type A: The filler plug is positioned 51 mm {2 in} higher than the oil level required.
― Type B: The filler plug is located at the correct oil level.
Type A
1. Obtain a white zip-tie approx. 203 mm {8 in} in length.
2. Measure 89 mm {3.5 in} from the bottom and make a mark.
3. Park the vehicle on level ground.
4. Remove the filler plug.
5. Inspect the oil level.
- (1) Insert the zip-tie at a 45° angle toward the center of the transfer case until the mark reaches the filler plug hole.
-
- (2) Remove the zip-tie.
- (3) Verify that the oil is approx.13 mm {0.5 in} from the tip.
-
-
• If the oil level is approx.13 mm {0.5 in} from the tip, go to Step 7.
-
• If the oil level is not approx.13 mm {0.5 in} from the tip, go to Step 6 to adjust the oil level.
6. Adjust the oil level.
- (1) Hand tighten the filler plug.
- (2) Remove the transfer. (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
- (3) Remove the filler plug.
- (4) Drain the oil by turning the transfer upside down.
- (5) Ensure all oil has been drained out of the transfer.
- (6) Measure out 0.502—0.562 L {0.531—0.593 US qt, 0.442—0.494 lmp qt} of transfer oil.

Viscosity: SAE 75W-140
- (7) Using a funnel, fill the transfer case with the pre-measured transfer oil.
- (8) Hand tighten the filler plug.
- (9) Install the transfer. (See TRANSFER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
- (10) Remove the filler plug.
- (11) Perform Step 5 to inspect the oil level.
7. Apply sealant to the filler plug.
8. Tighten the filler plug before the applied sealant starts to harden.
-
Tightening torque
-
17—24 N·m {1.8—2.4 kgf·m, 13—17 ft·lbf}
9. Inspect for oil leakage.
Type B
1. Park the vehicle on level ground.
2. Remove the filler plug.
3. Verify that the oil is near the brim of the filler plug hole.
-
• If the oil level is low, add the specified type of oil through the filler plug hole until the level reaches the brim of the filler plug hole.
