Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
INSPECT DIFFERENTIAL OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR CONDITION
•  Disconnect the differential oil temperature sensor connector.
•  Inspect the differential oil temperature sensor.
•  Is the differential oil temperature sensor normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the differential oil temperature sensor, then go to Step 7.
2
INSPECT 4WD CM TO DIFFERENTIAL OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Disconnect the 4WD CM connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between the 4WD CM terminal A (harness-side) and the differential oil temperature sensor terminal A (harness-side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the harness for open circuit between the 4WD CM and the differential oil temperature sensor, then go to Step 7.
3
INSPECT 4WD CM TO DIFFERENTIAL OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR FOR SHORT TO POWER
•  Inspect voltage between the 4WD CM terminal A (harness-side) and ground.
•  Is voltage B+?
Yes
Repair or replace the harness for short to power between the 4WD CM and the differential oil temperature sensor, then go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT 4WD CM TO DIFFERENTIAL OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR FOR SHORT TO GROUND
•  Inspect for continuity between the 4WD CM terminal A (harness-side) and ground.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the harness for short to ground between the 4WD CM and the differential oil temperature sensor, then go to Step 7.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT 4WD CM TO DIFFERENTIAL OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
•  Inspect for continuity between the 4WD CM terminal C (harness-side) and the differential oil temperature sensor terminal B (harness-side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the harness for open circuit between the 4WD CM and the differential oil temperature sensor, then go to Step 7.
6
INSPECT 4WD CM TO DIFFERENTIAL OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR FOR SHORT TO POWER
•  Inspect voltage between the 4WD CM terminal C (harness-side) and ground.
•  Is voltage B+?
Yes
Repair or replace the harness for short to power between the 4WD CM and the differential oil temperature sensor, then go to the next step.
No
Replace the 4WD CM, then go to next step.
7
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED
•  Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear DTC from memory.
•  Drive vehicle.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the 4WD CM, then go to next step.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Is there any other DTC present?
Yes
Go to applicable DTC inspection.
