Emergency system shutdown method

•  When the wheels are rotated using a chassis dynamometer or the like and an inspection is performed, if the electronically controlled brake unit detects a malfunction in the vehicle speed signal, the system may not be able to be stopped by the power switch. If the system cannot be stopped by the power switch, perform an emergency stop using the following procedure.

1.  Press and hold the power switch for approx. 3 s or more, or press it three or more times within approx. 1.5 s.

2.  The EV system shuts down. (Main power is ACC)

3.  Press the power switch to switch the main power OFF.

Inspection During Powertrain Drive

Note
•  If the EV system cannot be stopped by the power switch, an emergency system stop will be performed. (See Emergency system shutdown method.)
•  Pay attention to the following items in particular when inspecting the powertrain on the chassis dynamometer or speedometer tester.
―  Place an adequate cooling fan in front of the vehicle. (Preferably a vehicle-speed proportional type)
―  Be careful not to let heat build up around the vehicle.
―  Pay attention to the engine coolant temperature gauge so as not to overheat the engine.
―  Avoid added load to the engine and maintain normal driving conditions as much as possible.

Servicing on Vehicles with Electric Parking Brake

1.  When checking the braking force with the brake tester, if the electric parking brake function of the electronically controlled brake unit detects a condition that satisfies all of the following conditions for 3 s or longer, it automatically switches to the "electric parking brake inspection mode". The system automatically switches to "electric parking brake inspection mode" when detected for 3 s or more.

•  Main power is switched ON (READY on)
•  Selector lever is in N position
•  Accelerator and brake pedals are not depressed
•  Front wheel speed is 0 km/h{0 mph}
•  Rear wheel speed is 3—12 km/h {2.0—7.4 mph} or more
Note
•  When the mode is switched to the electric parking brake inspection mode, the electric parking brake warning light turns on.
•  The mode may not switch to the electric parking brake inspection mode depending on the specification of the brake tester being used. In this case, depress the parking brake using the normal electric parking brake switch operation and perform the braking force inspection.

2.  When the system switches to the electric parking brake inspection mode, the electric parking brake function of the electronically controlled brake unit amplifies the braking force of the electric parking brake in the following manner according to the operation of the electric parking brake switch.

Electric parking brake switch is pulled up and returned for short periods (less than approx. 2 s)
•  Increase the braking force by one step each time the operation is performed.

Electric parking brake switch is held pulled up for 2 s or more
•  Increase the braking force by one step each time 2 s have elapsed.

3.  When any of the following conditions is detected, stop the electric parking brake inspection mode.

•  Selector lever is in other than N position
•  Accelerator pedal is depressed
•  Brake pedal is depressed
•  Front wheel speed is 1 km/h {0.7 mph} or more
•  Rear wheel speed is less than 3 km/h{1 mph}
•  Rear wheel speed is 12 km/h {7.5 mph} or more
Note
•  When electric parking brake inspection mode is stopped, the electric parking brake warning light turns off.

Servicing of vehicles with ABS/DSC

Cautions on chassis dynamometer use

Note
•  If the system cannot be stopped by the power switch, an emergency system stop will be performed. (See Emergency system shutdown method.)
•  When only the front wheels or rear wheels are rotated using a chassis dynamometer or the like, the electronically controlled brake unit determines that the DSC is not normal and turns on the following lights.
―  ABS warning light
―  Brake system warning light
―  TCS/DSC indicator light
•  If the lights turn on, remove the vehicle from the chassis dynamometer and switch the main power OFF. Switch the main power ON again (READY on), drive at 10 km/h {6.2 mph} or more, and verify that the warning light turns off. Because a DTC is stored in the memory, erase it by following the DTC erasing procedure. (See DTC INSPECTION.)

Cautions for vehicles with Smart Brake Support (SBS) [Forward Detection function] / Smart Brake Support (SBS) [Turn-Across Traffic function] / Smart Brake Support (SBS) [Backward Detection function] / Smart Brake Support (SBS) [Rear Crossing Detection function] / Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) System / Mazda Radar Cruise Control (Stop & Go function) (With MRCC with Stop & Go function)) / Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) / Distance & Speed Alert (DSA) /Lane-Keep Assist System

Caution
•  If a vehicle with the following systems is inspected using a chassis dynamometer, always turn off each system before performing the inspection.
―  Smart Brake Support (SBS) [forward detection]
―  Smart Brake Support (SBS) [turn-across traffic]
―  Smart Brake Support (SBS) [rearward detection]
―  Smart Brake Support (SBS) [rear crossing]
―  Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) System
―  Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function (MRCC with Stop & Go function)
―  Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS) / Distance & Speed Alert (DSA)
―  Lane-keep assist system
•  If a chassis dynamometer is used without turning off each system, brake control will operate and the inspection cannot be performed correctly.
•  In the event that a chassis dynamometer is used without turning off each system, take appropriate measures referring to the following as each of the system’s warning lights may be illuminated/flashed and DTCs stored in the memory.
Rotating only front or rear wheels
•  When only the front wheels or the rear wheels are rotated, the electronically controlled brake unit determines that the DSC is not normal. It will also determine that the vehicle control module is malfunctioning and the following warning lights will be illuminated or flashed.
―  Display i-ACTIVSENSE warning message
―  Master warning light is turned on
1.  If the warning light turns on or flashes, remove the vehicle from the chassis dynamometer and switch the main power OFF.
2.  Switch the main power ON again (READY on), drive at 10 km/h {6.2 mph} or more, and verify that the warning light turns off.
3.  Because DTCs are stored, clear the DTCs according to the memory clearing procedure.
Rotating all four wheels
•  If all four wheels are rotated, the cruise control module determines that there is an error in the location information of the object which is detected by the radar sensor. As a result, the vehicle control module determines that a malfunction occurred, turns the Master warning light on, and displays a warning message in the instrument cluster.
1.  If the warning light turns on and a message is displayed, remove the vehicle from the chassis dynamometer and switch the main power ON.
2.  Switch the main power ON again (READY on), drive at 10 km/h {6.2 mph} or more, and verify that the warning light and the message turn off.
3.  Because DTCs are stored, clear the DTCs according to the memory clearing procedure.
