Description
The electric parking brake cannot be released even though the electric parking brake release operation has been performed.
Possible cause
•  Electric parking brake operation malfunction (if there is a malfunction in electric parking brake, electronically controlled brake unit detects DTC)
•  Rear brake sticking (rear disc plates are held even though electric parking brake motor gear unit operates release operation)

VERIFY SYSTEM DTCs
•  Switch the main power OFF.
•  Switch the main power ON (READY off or on) and wait for 10 s or more.
•  Perform a Quick Check using the M-MDS.
•  Are any DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair the malfunctioning location according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
Perform the repair completion verification.
No
Inspect the rear brake for sticking and repair or replace the malfunctioning location.
Perform the repair completion verification.

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS CORRECTED
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Complete the symptom troubleshooting.
Explain repair contents to customer.
No
Refer to the CAN (controller area network) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
