Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Results

Action

1
VERIFY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) CONTROL MODULE DTCS
•  Switch the main power OFF and maintain this condition approx. 1 min.
•  Switch the main power ON (READY on).
•  Using the M-MDS, perform the Electric Power Steering (EPS) control module DTC inspection.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
2
VERIFY POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT/POWER STEERING MALFUNCTION INDICATION ILLUMINATION CONDITION
•  Main power is switched ON (READY on).
•  Does the power steering malfunction indicator light/power steering malfunction indication turn off?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Malfunction may be temporary.
3
VERIFY COMMUNICATION CONDITION BETWEEN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) CONTROL MODULE AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)
•  Using the M-MDS, display the following PIDs for the body control module (BCM).
―  EPAS_NETWORK
•  Is the EPAS_NETWORK PID value Node Attached and Communicate correctly?
Yes
Perform the body control module (BCM) configuration, then repeat the inspection from Step 1.
If the malfunction recurs, replace the instrument cluster.
No
Electric Power Steering (EPS) control module malfunction. Replace the Electric Power Steering (EPS) control module.
Perform the repair completion verification.
Repair completion verification
VERIFY THAT MALFUNCTION SYMPTOMS DO NOT RECUR AFTER REPAIR
•  Install/connect the part removed/disconnected during the troubleshooting procedure.
•  Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?
Yes
Complete the symptom troubleshooting.
Explain to the customer what has been repaired.
No
Refer to the controller area network (CAN) malfunction diagnosis flow to inspect for a CAN communication error.
If the CAN communication is normal, perform the diagnosis from Step 1.
