OCCUPANCY SENSOR INSPECTION

Warning

•  Handling a side air bag improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings/cautions in the Workshop Manual before handling the front seat (side air bag integrated).(See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (E)].)(See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM (E)].)

•  If the sliding mechanisms on both sides are not locked after assembling the front seat, the front seat will operate accidentally while the vehicle is driven, which could result in serious injury. After assembling the front seat, shake it up and down and verify that the sliding mechanism on the both sides are locked.

Note

•  If cargo is put on the sensor detection area of the occupancy sensor, the sensor may respond.

Driver's Side (With Power Seat System)

1.  Remove the driver-side front seat installation bolts.(See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

2.  Perform the following procedure.

(1)  Switch the main power OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

3.  Remove the head restraint.

4.  Remove the front seat under cover.(See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

5.  Remove the driver-side front seat.(See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

6.  Remove the driver-side front seat cushion pad.(See FRONT SEAT CUSHION TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

7.  Verify that the continuity between the occupancy sensor terminals is as indicated in the table.

•  If not as indicated in the table, replace the driver-side front seat cushion pad.(See FRONT SEAT CUSHION TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

Passenger's Side

1.  Perform the following procedure.

(1)  Switch the main power OFF.

(2)  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the head restraint.

3.  Remove the passenger-side front seat.(See FRONT SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)

4.  Disconnect the connector.

5.  Verify that the continuity between the occupancy sensor terminals is as indicated in the table.

•  If not as indicated in the table, replace the passenger-side front seat cushion pad.(See FRONT SEAT CUSHION TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(E)].)
