RAIN SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Replacement parts

1.  Disconnect the negative lead-acid battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE LEAD-ACID BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the sensor cover. (See SENSOR COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Disconnect the connectors.

4.  Insert the remover tool into the gap between the rain sensor and the tab (1).

5.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure and detach the tab (1) from the rain sensor.

6.  Insert the remover tool into the gap between the rain sensor and the tab (2).

7.  Move the remover tool in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and detach the tab (2) from the rain sensor.

8.  Move the rain sensor in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and remove the rain sensor from the bracket.

9.  Remove the rain sensor protective sheet from the rain sensor.

10.  Install in the reverse order of removal. (See Rain Sensor Installation Note.)

Rain Sensor Installation Note

Caution

•  If there is something which changes the reflection or the transparency rate of infrared light emitted from the rain sensor between the rain sensor and the windshield, or the rain sensor protective sheet, the rain sensor determines that there is a problem in the rainfall amount detection function and stops the auto wiper system control. Be careful of the following when installing the rain sensor:

―  Do not reuse the rain sensor protective sheet.

―  Do not touch the rain sensor lens, rain sensor protective sheet, and sensor installation area on the windshield with your fingers.

―  Verify that there are no air bubbles after installing the rain sensor.

1.  Wipe off any oil or dirt from the rain sensor lens and the windshield using a clean cloth.

2.  Peel off adhesive tape backing A from a new rain sensor protective sheet.

3.  Attach the rain sensor protective sheet to the rain sensor lens.

4.  Peel off adhesive tape backing B from the rain sensor protective sheet.

5.  Move the rain sensor in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure and install the rain sensor to the bracket.

6.  Press the rain sensor in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure to push out bubbles between the rain sensor and the windshield.

7.  Verify that there are no air bubbles between the rain sensor and the windshield.
