LEAD-ACID BATTERY RECHARGING

Warning
•  Keep all flames away from the lead-acid battery and perform the servicing in a well-ventilated area. Otherwise, evaporated gas from the lead-acid battery could ignite.
•  When connecting to the lead-acid battery charger, make sure the lead-acid battery cables are connected correctly. (Refer to the following figure)
•  When replacing the lead-acid battery, a genuine Mazda lead-acid battery is recommended. If a lead-acid battery other than the dedicated lead-acid battery is used, flammable gas (hydrogen gas) may enter the vehicle, ignite, or explode.
Caution
•  Do not rapid charge the lead-acid battery, even temporarily. Rapid charging may damage the lead-acid battery.

1.  Remove the lead-acid battery. (See LEAD-ACID BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2.  Attach the charger to the lead-acid battery and adjust the charging current as follows.

LN1: 4—5 A

3.  After the lead-acid battery is charged, verify that the lead-acid battery voltage displays the standard value and remains at the same value even 1 h or more after charging is stopped. (See LEAD-ACID BATTERY INSPECTION.)

•  If not within the standard, replace the lead-acid battery.
