Purpose, function
• If the vehicle detects an operation by the driver intending to leave the vehicle with the shift position in a position other than P, the vehicle switches the shift position to P automatically.
• If the driver does not switch the shift position to P and a specific vehicle condition is detected, the vehicle automatically switches the shift position to P.
• A neutral hold mode is equipped to hold the vehicle in a parking unlock condition with the ignition switched to a position other than ON, such as when using an automatic car washer.

• In the following cases, the Auto P function does not operate.

― Battery voltage is extremely low
Operation

• While the Auto P function is operating, a message is displayed on the multi-information display. (See
AutoP FUNCTION.)
Operation conditions
-
• When any of the following operation conditions is met with the actual shift position in a position other than P, the vehicle switches to the P position automatically.

― Ignition is switched from ON (engine off or on) to OFF or ACC while vehicle speed is 5 km/h or less
― Driver’s seat belt is unfastened and driver’s door is opened while vehicle speed is 5 km/h or less
― Vehicle speed is 5 km/h or less while charging system warning light is flashing and battery voltage is low
― Vehicle speed is 5 km/h or less while low fuel warning light is flashing and Mazda M Hybrid battery output is restricted
Neutral hold mode

• With neutral hold mode, the vehicle can be stopped with the shift position in N and the electric parking brake (EPB) released.
• During neutral hold mode, the Auto P function does not operate and the ignition is switched to ACC.
• The neutral hold mode continues for approx. 25 min after the switching operation, and if it is left in that condition, the Auto P function operates.

Neutral hold mode selection procedure

• Neutral hold mode can be selected by performing any of the following procedures.
Procedure 1
-
1. Switch the ignition ON (engine on).
2. Release the parking brake.
3. Shift the selector lever to the N position.
4. Switch the AUTOHOLD off.
5. Press the electric parking brake switch down continuously for 2 s or more (until warning sound is activated).
6. Release the electric parking brake switch and switch the ignition OFF within 5 s after warning sound is activated.
Procedure 2

1. Switch the ignition ON (engine on).
2. Release the parking brake.
3. Shift the selector lever to the N position.
4. Switch the AUTOHOLD off.
5. With the electric parking brake switch pressed down, switch the ignition OFF without depressing the brake pedal.

Neutral hold mode cancel procedure

• Neutral hold mode can be canceled by performing any of the following procedures.

― Switch the ignition ON.
― Shift the selector lever to the P position.

Note
-
• When the vehicle receives the neutral hold mode selection, a sound is activated and a message is displayed on the multi-information display.
• If the PCM detects a malfunction in the selector lever or parking lock actuator, neutral hold mode cannot be selected.
