HEATED STEERING WHEEL CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Warning

•  Handling the driver-side air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the driver-side air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)

1.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

2.  Remove the following parts.

(1)  Driver-side air bag module. (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)

(2)  Steering wheel bezel. (See STEERING WHEEL BEZEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(3)  Steering wheel. (See STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(4)  Steering shift switch. (See STEERING SHIFT SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [ET6A-EL, ET6AX-EL].)

(5)  Steering wheel cover (See STEERING WHEEL COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

3.  Remove the heated steering wheel control unit screws.

4.  Remove the heated steering wheel control unit from the steering wheel.

5.  Disconnect the clip.

6.  Disconnect the connector from the heated steering wheel control unit.

Note

•  Be careful not to bend the connector tab.

7.  Peel off the plastic tape wrapped around the heated steering wheel control unit.

Note

•  When installing the heated steering wheel control unit, wrap new plastic tape.

8.  Disconnect the heated steering wheel unit element from the heated steering wheel control unit.

9.  Install in the reverse order of removal.
