SIDE AIR BAG MODULE FOR REAR PASSENGER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]

Warning

•  Handling the side air bag module for rear passenger improperly can activate (deploy) the air bag module unexpectedly, which may seriously injure you. Read the SRS air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the side air bag module for rear passenger. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [TWO-STEP DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) Note

•  The SRS air bag system can be identified by whether or not the seat track position sensor is present.

―  Standard deployment control system: Without seat track position sensor

―  Two-step deployment control system: With seat track position sensor

1.  Switch the ignition OFF.

2.  Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

3.  Remove the following parts:

(1)  Scuff plate (See SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(2)  Rear package tray (See REAR PACKAGE TRAY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(3)  Trunk side upper trim (See TRUNK SIDE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(4)  Rear pillar trim (See REAR PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(5)  Rear seat cushion (See REAR SEAT CUSHION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(6)  Rear seat back (See REAR SEAT BACK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

(7)  Tire house trim (See TIRE HOUSE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Detach clip A.

5.  Remove the bolts.

6.  Remove the guide on the side air bag module for rear passenger from the body.

7.  Detach clip B.

8.  Pull out the connector stopper plate using a flathead screwdriver.

9.  Disconnect the connector.

10.  Remove the side air bag module for rear passenger.

11.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

12.  Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).

13.  Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light turns on for approx. 6 s and turns off.

•  If the air bag/pre-tensioner warning light does not work properly, verify the DTCs. (See DTC INSPECTION.)

Bolt Installation Note

1.  Temporarily tighten bolt A.

3.  Tighten bolt A.
