Determination Procedure

Caution
•  When disconnecting the connector, verify that there is no looseness, damage, deformation, corrosion, or poor connection of the connector terminals.
•  When inspecting the connector, touch it with a paper clip or similar thin pin without directly inserting a tester probe into the terminal.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal before performing any work that requires handling of connectors.

INSPECT BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the connector 2 which has body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J (wiring harness side).
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J (wiring harness side) the same?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the body control module (BCM) because there is a short between circuits in the body control module (BCM).

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-31 AND BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the connector C-31.
•  Connect the connector 2 which has body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J the same?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the body control module (BCM) and connector C-31 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT (LH) AND CONNECTOR C-31 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Inspect for continuity between front combination light (LH) terminals D and E.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 5.

INSPECT FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT (LH) FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the front combination light (LH) connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between front combination light (LH) terminals D and E (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the front combination light (LH) and connector C-31 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the front combination light (LH) because there is a short between circuits in the front combination light (LH).

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-33 AND CONNECTOR C-31 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the connector C-33.
•  Connect the connector C-31.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J the same?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-33 and connector C-31 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT (RH) AND CONNECTOR C-33 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Inspect for continuity between front combination light (RH) terminals D and E.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 8.

INSPECT FRONT COMBINATION LIGHT (RH) FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the front combination light (RH) connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between front combination light (RH) terminals D and E (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the front combination light (RH) and connector C-33 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the front combination light (RH) because there is a short between circuits in the front combination light (RH).

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-04 AND CONNECTOR C-33 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the connector C-04.
•  Connect the connector C-33.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J the same?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-04 and connector C-33 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-36 AND CONNECTOR C-04 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the connector C-36.
•  Connect the connector C-04.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J the same?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-36 and connector C-04 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND CONNECTOR C-36 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Inspect for continuity between instrument cluster terminals AK and AM.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 12.

INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between instrument cluster terminals AK and AM (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the instrument cluster and connector C-36 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the instrument cluster because there is a short between circuits in the instrument cluster.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-39 AND CONNECTOR C-36 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the connector C-39.
•  Connect the connector C-36.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J the same?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-36 and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN STEERING LOCK UNIT AND CONNECTOR C-39 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Inspect for continuity between steering lock unit terminals B and D.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 15.

INSPECT STEERING LOCK UNIT FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the steering lock unit connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between steering lock unit terminals B and D (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the steering lock unit and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the steering lock unit because there is a short between circuits in the steering lock unit.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT AND CONNECTOR C-39 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Inspect for continuity between climate control unit terminals 1K and 1N.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 17.

INSPECT CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the climate control unit connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between steering lock unit terminals 1K and 1N (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the climate control unit and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the climate control unit because there is a short between circuits in the climate control unit.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-39 AND CONNECTOR C-38 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the connector C-38.
•  Connect the connector C-39.
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J the same?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-38 and connector C-39 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN ACTIVE DRIVING DISPLAY AND CONNECTOR C-38 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Inspect for continuity between active driving display terminals I and G.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 20.

INSPECT ACTIVE DRIVING DISPLAY FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the active driving display connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between active driving display terminals I and G (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the active driving display and connector C-38 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the active driving display because there is a short between circuits in the active driving display.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN STEERING ANGLE SENSOR AND CONNECTOR C-38 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Inspect for continuity between steering angle sensor terminals B and C.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 22.

INSPECT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the steering angle sensor connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between steering angle sensor terminals B and C (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the steering angle sensor and connector C-38 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the steering angle sensor because there is a short between circuits in the steering angle sensor.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-38 AND CONNECTOR C-13 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the connector C-13.
•  Connect the connector C-38.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J the same?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-38 and connector C-13 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-13 AND CONNECTOR C-41 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Disconnect the connector C-41.
•  Connect the connector C-13.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J the same?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between connector C-41 and connector C-13 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN LF CONTROL UNIT AND CONNECTOR C-41 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Switch the ignition off.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Inspect for continuity between LF control unit terminals M and P.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 26.

INSPECT LF CONTROL UNIT FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the LF control unit connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between LF control unit terminals M and P (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the LF control unit and connector C-41 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the LF control unit because there is a short between circuits in the LF control unit.

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN DOOR-ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT (PASSENGER'S SIDE) AND CONNECTOR C-41 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Inspect for continuity between door-electrical supply unit (passenger's side) terminals 1A and 1B.
•  Is there continuity?
Yes

•  Disconnect the door-electrical supply unit (passenger's side) connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between door-electrical supply unit (passenger's side) terminals 1A and 1B (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the door-electrical supply unit (passenger's side) and connector C-23 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits
No
Replace the door-electrical supply unit (passenger's side) because there is a short between circuits in the door-electrical supply unit (passenger's side).

INSPECT CAN LINE BETWEEN CONNECTOR C-41 AND CONNECTOR C-40 FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the connector C-40.
•  Connect the connector C-41.
•  Connect the negative battery terminal.

•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.

Repair or replace the wiring harness between the dash-electrical supply unit and connector C-40 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the dash-electrical supply unit because there is a short between circuits in the dash-electrical supply unit.

•  Disconnect the door-electrical supply unit (driver's side) connector.
•  Inspect for continuity between door-electrical supply unit (driver's side) terminals 1A and 1B (wiring harness side).
•  Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the door-electrical supply unit (driver's side) and connector C-22 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the door-electrical supply unit (driver's side) because there is a short between circuits in the door-electrical supply unit (driver's side).

INSPECT ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT (ESU) FOR SHORT BETWEEN CIRCUITS
•  Disconnect the electrical supply unit (ESU) connector.
•  Connect the connector C-40.
•  Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
•  Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
•  Measure the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J.
•  Is the voltage at body control module (BCM) terminals 2L and 2J the same?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness between the electrical supply unit (ESU) and connector C-40 because the wiring harness is shorted between circuits.
No
Replace the electrical supply unit (ESU) because there is a short between circuits in the electrical supply unit (ESU).
