Active bonnet deployment conditions

•  The active bonnet operates when all of the following conditions are met:
―  Vehicle is driven at low to mid speeds within specified operable speed range
―  Active bonnet sensors detect impact of specified value or more

Active bonnet deployment flow

1.  If the vehicle hits a pedestrian at the front of the vehicle while the vehicle is being driven, the active bonnet sensors detect the collision. (See ACTIVE BONNET SENSOR CONSTRUCTION/OPERATION.)

2.  The active bonnet control module determines whether to activate/not activate the active bonnet based on the following signals. (See ACTIVE BONNET CONTROL MODULE CONSTRUCTION/OPERATION.)

Signal name

Output device

Comment

Impact level signal
Active bonnet sensor
Vehicle speed signal
PCM
Ambient temperature signal
Instrument cluster
Corrects the impact level setting which is used to determine deployment of the active bonnet actuator.

3.  The active bonnet control module deploys the active bonnet actuators if an active bonnet deployment is determined.

4.  When the active bonnet actuators are deployed, the actuator pistons are ejected and the bonnet is pushed upward. (See ACTIVE BONNET ACTUATOR CONSTRUCTION/OPERATION.)

5.  When the bonnet is pushed upward by the active bonnet actuator pistons, the bonnet hinges operate and the rear side of the bonnet is lifted up.
